id say you still have it

and sometimes they stick around... pesky things
go see your doctor again
I recently had a urinary tract infection diagnosed by the doctor. I took all the antibiotics except the last three pills, then waited about a week and finished up the pills. The symptoms have returned. I have a constant urge to urinate, and a burning during urination and any sexual contact. I also have a lot of discharge (which is rather normal for me) but more than usual and it smells badly. Could I have not gotten rid of the UTI, or could this be worse?

Not taking the whole prescription as required and leaving those 3 pills is all it can take to reignite the infection. You will need to go back to the doctor and get another prescription and take them all correctly for the entire prescription length.
There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.
I agree. Sounds like the UTI just stuck around. I get them fairly frequently, and some have been trickier than others to get rid of. You may require a higher dosage of antibiotic to really flush the infection out. Remember to drink as much water as you can stand and lots of vitamin C.
Side note: please do make sure that you get rid of it entirely. I once let a UTI get too out of hand because I was busy and figured it would eventually pass. But it spread to my kidney and I ended up in the ER.Listen to your body!
why didn't you finish your medication?? You must finish it otherwise it will come back!!
When you clear it up, look into D-Mannose for UTI's. It works like a miricle without antibiotics. Also, take a good strong cranberry supplement. Drink tons of water, and really make sure your clean down there, perenial area!!!!!!!!!
Taking all your antibiotics is important. If it still sticks around you may want to look up vulvodynia on the internet. I had what I thought was another kidney infection because I had the usual "need to pee" feeling all the time and lots of burning. My doc said it was a UTI this time and put me on two weeks of antibiotics. After I finished the antibiotics, I had no change. After a year of different doctors and tests, they diagnosed me with vulvodynia, which basically means unexplainable pain down there. This can only be managed with diet, supplements, and different pain meds and antidepressants. No amount of antibiotics would have ever helped. But, you have to take all the antibitoics to rule out the UTI.
Not too long ago I went through something with the burning and all that! I couldn't go to school for days because I was crying my eyes out in bed, it hurt sooo bad. It pretty much stung 24/7. My pee was cloudy looking and all weird. But it didn't smell bad and didn't have discharge really.
My father took me to the doctor and I was diagnosed with a UTI and Vaginosis (spelling)? That was pretty much an over growth of bad bacteria.
Mostly common in people who are sexually active...and I believe you shouldn't have sex til it's gone!
I was shocked because it's VERY rare for a virgin to get it, and well..I'm a virgin.
So I had to take medicine to get through that. But then a few days later the doctor said I had E coli :|
I needed more medicine and it got to the point where I woke up crying because it hurt soooo bad. The only thing that helped was taking really hot baths and showers. So I was doing that every hour. My mom bought me these pills that was supposed to numb everything down there. It helped a little, but turned my pee orange.. And stained my underwear. Not very cool. Haha
But it got worse. I started trying to pee and I pretty much felt constipated but for urinating, if that makes sense? I had to push really hard (Sorry if this is too graphic) but I ended up peeing out blood clots. Which terrified me and I cried more.
I looked that up online, and that happens to be who do have E Coli. But I heard that women had peed out blood clots the size of golf balls. Luckily mine was just very little or I think I would of died.
Thank God I'm better now! And I hope you are too!
The reason I wrote all this is just for anyone having these symptons... You should get checked for a UTI, Vaginosis (sp?), and E Coli, because that can do it for ya!
xx
Have you ever had a yeast infection? Often times when you get a UTI doctors prescribe antibiotics and from taking the antibiotics you end up getting a yeast infection... it's difficult at times to self diagnose because often times UTI's have a few of the same symptoms. Or basically you are focused on things just don't feel right down there and still having the uti seems logical. Are you having pain in your lower back area? If so...UTI.... Are you having burning, itching or soreness at times other than prior to needing to urinate or immediately after urination? If it's times other than prior to or after... it could be a yeast infection. I seem to get a yeast infection EVERY time I've gotten over a UTI from the anitbiotics and to me it feels different than getting a typical yeast infection... the ones caused from antiobiotics seem to irritate me more.
My suggestion to you is go and see your doctor as soon as possible.... If it is a UTI it's not something you want to let go. If you are having a fever then it's almost positive a UTI and if it goes untreated not only will you get very ill (fever, etc...) it could also seriously damage your kidneys.
Until you are able to see a doctor my suggestion to you to kind of ease the uncomfortable feeling.... try to drink cranberry juice (it has something in it that naturally flushes the kidneys, if you don't like cranberry juice try diluting it with water or dring plain water. when you have that uncomfortable feeling try ice packs... it sounds odd but it really does provide some relief. If you are having lower back pain a heating pad works wonders, or a nice hot bath.
If you are prone to yeast infections you may want to ask the doctor (if it turns out to be UTI and he prescribes more antibiotics) if it would be a good idea to use a yeast infection medication as well so you don't develop a yeast infection with taking more antibiotics. I am an old pro at UTI's... and I've learned little things that ease the discomfort but the last two UTI's I've gotten the only time I've had sympotms is when my fever spikes to 104* and I start getting lower back pain and at that point it's a pretty bad uti... I don't know why I no longer have the other symptoms but I do remember them well.
Good luck and I hope it all works out for you.
Visit the doctor and explain your symptoms and these things may also aid your healing for UTI:
Make sure to avoid sugary food and drinks. Drinks like coffee, tea, and alcohol should also be avoided till it goes away. Take cranberry extract tablets (found in most convenient drug stores) or drink pure cranberry juice (Brand like "Just Cranberry" found in organic sections of supermarkets).
Drink a cup daily if consuming the juice
Drink water about 8 cups at least
Eat yogurt (plain) add fruit for good bacteria that helps immunity (Prevents Yeast infections as well).
