    Default thrush and candida

i've never slept with someone uncircumcised until i met my current partner, which also means i've never experienced this situation before and i need advice.

he gets thrush on his penis every month (which is new for him too) and i never show any signs of a yeast infection (discharge, itching etc). i'm taking a contraceptive pill, and also pills for hypothyroid stabilization. we notice that symptoms of thrush only start to show mid-way through my menstrual cycle. this i've read is when the yeast is at its highest production period.

aside from having a hypothyroid i am in overall good health, my b.m.i. is 19, and i'm a pescatarian. i exercise moderately and my diet is free of most sugars and full of vegetables. i have medium levels of stress in my life. my boyfriend is in overall good health, rapidly reducing red meat consumption and turning to fish as an alternative. he exercises moderately as well. we both do not get enough sleep (approx 6-7 hours), and to make matters worse he sleeps restlessly.

does anyone know if you can ask your doctor to test for different types of candida? has anyone else experienced a recurrence of thrush on such a specific schedule (for us, mid-way through my cycle)? any information would be helpful. thanks in advance!

Why does he get a monthly recurrance of candida? There is a topical ointment (name starts with an N, don't remember what it is) that can clear candida up. It's given to babies and nursing mothers to clear up overgrowths in the infant's mouth that can spread to the nipples.
There's no reason why an intact penis should have a yeast overgrowth. Your boyfriend should really consult his doctor about that.
As far as your yeast issues, periods throw the pH of your vagina out of whack, allowing for overgrowths of yeast (or for some people, bacteria.)

Women are female (adj,) but not females (n.) We aren't dogs.

I am a little unclear as to why he is also getting it every month, Little the cream you are talking about could be Nilstat, it is an antifungal and used for Thrush. Whilst it is unnormal for males to get it, what could be happening is he is getting it from you and you both are passing it back to each other. I think both of you need to be treated for it to clear it up.

KoKocat - I am prone to thrush every mid way through my period, I can not have the combined pills as one of the hormones (Estrogen) is known for attracting yeast. I am now on a contraceptive called "Implonan" or the rod in the arm, which is one hormone and it works great, I get little Thrush infections which only last a few days then gone as soon as they rear their ugly head up. I am more happier within myself and my relationship. In the past my thrush was ongoing for years and no idea why I was getting it the same time and it was affecting me re low sex drive and my partner was worried about hurting me.

My issue is known as cyclical thrush, which occurs at the same time (roughly) of the month. I'd write it down and track it for a while to see if it has a pattern. I believe this could be what you have, however, get it checked out by your gyno. You'll also need to be showing symptoms to be treated.

Good luck and I hope this advice was useful. Please urge your partner to be checked out and... both of you get treated at the same time as it is no use treating yourself and having sex and then you get it back off him as it will be a vicious circle.
