So, I went in on Friday for a hysteroscopy and D&C.
I was in pre-op talking to my Dr and we started talking about an ablation. I had tentatively researched this before, so I wasn't totally without knowledge. WC and I have talked about it before and my mom has had it done. We talked about the pros and cons, IMO, the pros out weighed the cons. He said it was completely up to me. I've had one D&C a few years ago. More than likely, I would continue to have to have them every year or two. I was/am almost to the point of just saying, take it out, give me the hysterectomy, lol.
So, anyways, I consented to the ablation as well (Novasure). The possibility of no more periods or even lighter ones was too good to pass up.
So far, I'm pleased. I was crampy over the weekend, but not debilitating cramps. Took some Motrin and relaxed. I have some bleeding and discharge, I also had this with the D&C, so how much is due to the ablation, no telling. Today, I'm barely spotting, but do have some watery discharge, which looks to be common.
So, now, here I am on Monday and have questions. Does the ablation help with PMS? I'm kind of confused how this works. I know it essentially scars my uterus so it doesn't produce a lining anymore, so there is nothing hormonal changing. I have read about both better PMS symptoms and worse PMS symptoms. I'm just curious. I've definitely read more good than bad, I'm just not the type of person to consent to anything without researching it to death. Life would be grand with no more sore boobies, no more cramps, no more moodiness, etc., but I'm not holding my breath. I've also read where a lot of people feel that PMS is in direct response to how thick the lining of your uterus is and how heavy you bleed. With the absence of both, PMS seems to have been greatly reduced for many.
I was on my period when he performed the procedures, so it will be a good few weeks before I can tell if it helps my periods and PMS. I go back in for a follow up in 4 weeks.

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the person who screws up your day and may their arms be too short to scratch.

Whoever said anything was possible obviously never tried slamming a revolving door.
I can only speak from my own personal experience and about two years ago It was discovered that I had massive fibroid tumors and my periods were to the point that I couldn't even get out of bed and it was a challenge to find a comfortable position. My periods were extremely heavy that's what caused me to go to the doctor in the first place in which they discovered the tumors. They referred me to a doctor and he suggested the novasure since I wasn't planning on having any more children (my tubes had been tied for 12 yrs. or more). I read the information the doctor gave me on the NovaSure and it sounded like a dream. Since I was having surgery anyway, he just planned to do the proceedure at the same time but told me normally it's done on an outpatient basis and it takes about 5 min. to perform. I had a little bit of bleeding afterwards (very little though) and I'm not sure how much of it was from the tumors being removed or how much was from the NovaSure, and there was a little bit of cramping but nothing like what I had be experiencing. The bleeding (spotting) only lasted for a day or two and that was it. The following month I had cramps (nothing to bad just minor cramps) and upon checking the calendar I noted that it was "that time of the month" I kept waiting for bleeding but there was NONE and I haven't had a period since.
In the beginning I would have some cramps and I know it was supposed to be that time of the month but the more time that passes the less I am even aware of when it should be that time of the month, to be honest I can't even tell you when my cycle is. Sometimes I have cravings for chocolate and every now and then a mood swing will alert me to the fact it's probably that time again but nothing at all like I used to deal with. I am completely happy with the NovaSure proceedure and for me personally I don't see it having any downfall at all. I have recommended it to a few people as well.
It might not work for everyone's situation but for my personal situation it was perfect and I am very pleased with the results. I know hysteroectomy was also being considered which scared me because of the hormones and getting the levels right. I was on bc pills for years which caused me to gain 50+ lbs., and have migraine headaches so I was terrified at the thought of taking hormones. I hope your results are as wonderful as mine have been. Good luck and keep me posted.
