LadiLove and Jess4569: Are you still BV-free? Do these alternative treatments seem to be working? I have had recurrent BV since I was about 20 - am now 34 and getting really fed up! I'm going to get yet another Rx for Metronidazol but the BV always seems to come back after going away for a short while. If these alternative, daily routines are working for you, I'd love to try them!

ladies I too suffer from the same issue ,i really got fed up with metrodonizale so I took it upon myself to find a natural med to control the problem. So about a 2 months a ago I came across a product called botantical advantage-herbal support for vaginal infections. I take two supplements a day, its all natural for more info go to Viable Herbal Solutions, Inc. - Home Page - Health Support Products. They already have drugged use up enough why not try something natural.
I have been Bv free for about 3 months. |

I am 47 and have been checked by my GYN for everything imaginable. No STD, estrogen level is still good, no overgrowth of yeast, etc. My last test did detect Group B Strep in the vagina which I am being teated for now with Ceftin. I still have come sown with BV. During the past 10 years, I only went 1.5 year when I got it only once, otherwise it has been chronic and even more so recently. I had major female surgery a year ago and have had BV 6 times during past 6 months. I see that I am not out there alone and not the only one who is miserable and frustrated. I also do everything in my power not to get it down to not having sex, take only showers and the way I dress. I have tried many natural remedies, none of those work. I am very careful with what I do when it comes to the vaginal area. I am allergic to any Metronidazole drug as I break out in hives but seem to be living on Clindamycin, Diflucan and ph paper these days. Clinda always does the trick but all I have to do is have sex, stress or get hot/sweaty in that area and my ph rises and the bad bacteria take over once again. I wish it was as easy as my hormone level changing, atleast I would have an answer. Has anyone though of acupuncture, meditation, other? That was just a thought! All I know is that I still have too high of a sex drive to abstain, live is too short. HELP

I have been suffering from BV since 2003 and nothing has worked long term. I have changed doctors three times, but I finally found out what was causing it...
Last year I had a serious allergic reaction on my chest and upper back, I was given an antibiotic and a steriod injection. My reaction cleared up, but to my surprise, so did the discharge and odor for three months (the longest I have ever gone) when I asked my gyno to prescribe the anitbiotic for me, he said that it couldn't have worked. A few months later I got another steriod shot for a latex reaction and the BV went away again. I told my gyno and he said that it was possible that my BV was an allergic reaction. I have changed everything I use to hypoallergenic, but I still continue to struggle, but at least I know what causes it. Yesterday, my gyno told me to buy ulltra-pure detergent to wash my underwear in, wash my hair under the faucet after my shower, so I don't get any shampoo or conditioner near my vagina, and to take a lactobacilla supplements. Tonight I have to use benadryl cream vaginally and start these new practices tomorrow. We will see... I'll let you know... but know that your BV could be an allergic reaction and it might be eaiser to fix then mine... I hope this helps someone. |

Ok... so I used the Benedryl cream vaginally... which I have to say, had me a little worried, but it worked!!! I had no BV symptoms for about 24 hours, but now I have a yeast infection. (this is a bit strange going into all this) Anyway, please correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't have BV and a yeast infection at the same time, right? So, I'll keep you posted... This may be the answer for some of us.

I too, suffer from chronic BV. My current husband (and ONLY sex partner) since 2002 have a difficult time dealing with this. I get the same answers from all doctors: flagyl, no douching, cotton underwear, wipe front to back, etc... Nothing seems to work. It comes on shortly after my cycle, and leaves shortly before I start again. So, out of every month I only have about 4-5 days of bliss! My diet has not changed my entire life, nor has anything else. My husband and I have both been treated - to no avail. The only wierd thing is that he is the only man I have had this trouble with. In my previous marriage and other monogamous relationships I have never experienced this. I dated this man (my current husband) in the past - and developed BV; ended the relationship - no BV. We are together again (since 2002) - and guess what - BV!!!!! I'm wondering if my PH levels are being thrown off by his bodily fluids? He understands there's nothing I can do - but it's soooooooo UN-sexy! I'm trying yogurt - orally and vaginally - I hope it works - even if I have to do this every month.................it will be much better than "leaking and smelling"!! Any advice would be great - thanks

My symptoms are: discharge - whitish - like thin Elmer's glue, sometimes really thick; fishy smell, especially after intercourse; foul smell of underclothes after sweating. It starts a few days after my cycle has ended - and does not go away until a few days before my cycle starts - it's horrible! And I've dealt with this for years - with AND witout medication.
