Just wanted to add additional information regarding body ph which relates to my previous post.

Most people who suffer from unbalanced pH are acidic. This condition forces the body to borrow minerals—including calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium—from vital organs and bones to buffer (neutralize) the acid and safely remove it from the body. Because of this strain, the body can suffer severe and prolonged damage due to high acidity—a condition that may go undetected for years.
Mild acidosis can cause such problems as:

Cardiovascular damage, including the constriction of blood vessels and the reduction of oxygen.
    Weight gain, obesity and diabetes.
Bladder and kidney conditions, including kidney stones.
    Immune deficiency.
Acceleration of free radical damage, possibly contributing to cancerous mutations.
    Hormone concerns.
    Premature aging.
Osteoporosis; weak, brittle bones, hip fractures and bone spurs.
Joint pain, aching muscles and lactic acid buildup.
    Low energy and chronic fatigue.
    Slow digestion and elimination.
    Yeast/fungal overgrowth.

    pH and Bone Loss:

A recent seven-year study conducted at the University of California, San Francisco, on 9,000 women showed that those who have chronic acidosis are at greater risk for bone loss than those who have normal pH levels. The scientists who carried out this experiment believe that many of the hip fractures prevalent among middle-aged women are connected to high acidity caused by a diet rich in animal foods and low in vegetables. This is because the body borrows calcium from the bones in order to balance pH. — American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

    Urine pH
Urine testing may indicate how well your body is excreting acids and assimilating minerals, especially calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. These minerals function as "buffers." Buffers are substances that help maintain and balance the body against the introduction of too much acidity or too much alkalinity. Even with the proper amounts of buffers, acid or alkaline levels can become extreme. When the body ingests or produces too many of these acids or alkalis, it must excrete the excess. The urine is the perfect way for the body to remove any excess acids or alkaline substances that cannot be buffered. If the average urine pH is below 6.5 the body's buffering system is overwhelmed, a state of "autotoxication" exists, and attention should be given to lowering acid levels.

s the whole acid/alkaline balancing act as much of a mystery to you as it was to me? Believe it or not, a pH imbalance may be what causes yeast infections in many people.

Before researching this subject, I didn’t have much of a clue how to tell if I was too acidic, nor what to do about it if I was. I did know that achieving a healthy acid/alkaline balance in my body was sure to affect my diet, which is always a bummer, but usually necessary.

What is Acidosis and What Does It Have To Do With Yeast Infections?

Acidosis is a build-up of large amounts of acid in our bloodstream which results in reduced alkalinity of our tissues and blood.

Why does this matter? The over-all health of our bodies is dependent on “cell communication” between the trillions of cells that make up our bodies. Our cells communicate via hormonal, chemical and electrical impulses and mechanisms. All of this “communicating” requires a balanced slightly alkaline environment to keep things running smoothly and functioning normally.

When our bodies become overly acidic, it negatively affects the functioning of very important cells that make up very important organs including our heart, brain, nervous system, bones, muscles, hair and skin. When these organs aren’t performing “up to snuff”, it obviously opens us up to numerous health problems and serious diseases.

Acidosis becomes a big problem when our bodies are unable to properly dispose of the excess amounts of acid that begin building up in our bloodstream. Our body, in an attempt to keep our pH balance normal, begins trying to eliminate the acid through our lungs, kidneys and skin or as a last ditch effort tries to neutralize the acids through our digestive tract (enter—yeast infections) and the metabolism of our cells.

When large amounts of acid are present in the body, it is unable to keep up with the pace of proper elimination and as a result, the acids overwhelm our system and begin to pollute our blood. This disables the “lines of communication” among the cells in our bodies causing BIG problems and opening us up to serious diseases.

A few of the health problems that may result from acidosis are:

    Osteo and rheumatoid arthritis
    Dermatitis
    Eczema
    Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
    Yeast Infections and Candida Overgrowth
    Fibromyalgia
    Cancer
    Diabetes

Over time, if the acidosis is not addressed and acid continues to build up in our bodies, our organs eventually deteriorate due to cell die-off which leaves us vulnerable to toxins including bacteria, fungus, candida or yeast overgrowth, parasites and mold which then begin feeding off the diseased and weakened organs and tissue. This, in turn, opens the door and invites various diseases to have their way with our bodies.

The pH scale is used to determine our bodies’ acidity and alkalinity. The pH scale ranges from 1 to 14—1 being the most acidic, 7 being neutral and 14 being the most alkaline state. The ideal pH blood level would be around 7.3 which is slightly more alkaline than acidic. If you level is lower than 7.0, you’re headed toward acidosis. However, you don’t want to be too alkaline either—and blood levels above 7.5 indicate that you are overly alkaline.

Balance is the key and, while it may seem complicated, obtaining a healthy pH balance may just be a matter of reviewing your daily diet and cutting out one or two cups of coffee or that bag of potato chips at lunch. Everyone’s body reacts differently, so it’s best to monitor your pH balance with PH Test Strips while you’re trying to balance your diet. This will help you keep tabs on your progress.

In essence, acidosis leads to the literal destruction of our bodies from the inside out and is a big component of what causes yeast infections and other serious diseases.

Thanks for the very interesting post about apple cider vinegar. I am interested in trying it, but don't think I could stomach the taste. How much do you take? I noticed you can buy capsules, although I wonder whether they are worthwhile, since you probably don't get much ACV in a capsule!

    Hi

It honestly doesn't taste that bad especially with a bit of honey added. I have 1 tablespoon in at least 8oz of warm or cold water 2-3 times a day. I didn't think I could stomach it but I have definately got a taste for it now believe it or not. I am not sure how effective the capsules are in comparison but might be worth a try.

    Found the following info:
liquid or tincture can be more effective as it by passes some of the digestive processes and therefore has more of an opportunity to provide benefit for the body as many who have health challenges also have reduced or impaired digestion.

Think it would depend on the individual but if you really can't stomach it go for the capsules.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a go.

I'm a bit confused by it all in relation to the BV though, as it's the alkalinity of the blood that seems to cause the BV, and that acidifying the vagina helps.

Yes I know. Same thing crossed my mind. I can only attribute it to the fact that my overal body ph was too acidic and being both too acidic and too alkaline are both bad. That's really why i have made of point of stating that this worked for me as my root problem was to to with my overall ph being very acidic as a result of bad diet etc and therefore this impacted on my immune function and ability to fight off infection and bacterial overgrowth which led to reoccurring infections. Viscous circle really, the more the infection reoccurs the more my immune system was taking a battering. I would be interested to hear how you get on with apple cider vinegar and whether it works for you. Hope you have some luck with it.

Thanks - that's why I'm interested in it too, as I have candida, and other issues (and not the greatest diet in the world - I'm a very fussy eater). I'll report back.

Great good luck. Have you tried humaworm for candida if you have got a serious overgrowth this can help. Having overgrowth can lead to leaky gut which I though I might have been suffering from also. I wasn't kidding when I said I'd tried everything . Anyway here's a bit of info on it that I found when researching my symptoms.

Severe yeast infections are caused when a more simple yeast infection is left untreated. This causes the infection to continue to get worse and cause the condition to move into the body systems. Candida albicans or monilla are the fungus primarily responsible for yeast infections. These fungi could develop and infection almost anywhere.

    Kill the Yeast
Excessive use of antibiotics, an unhealthy lifestyle and poor eating habits all encourage yeast overgrowth in the colon. The yeast mutates, growing appendages which burrow into the intestinal wall. When the yeast dies off the hole that was created remains open, allowing particles to seep through.

A change in diet to one that is relatively free of sugar and refined carbohydrates is very important because the yeast is fed by this food group. When the food supply is cut off then the yeast will cease reproduction. To kill the yeast that is already present daily intake of caprylic acid, oil of oregano and olive leaf extract supplements is usually all that is required. These are all conveniently taken in capsule form. This regimen represents a naturopathic approach to the condition, and most naturopaths suggest 600 mg. of caprylic acid taken twice each day, 500 mg. of olive leaf extract taken up to three times each day and the oil of oregano taken in softgel form twice each day. Each dose of supplements should be taken with a meal. These supplements should be taken for at least two months to ensure that yeast overgrowth has been neutralized.

Adding good bacteria back to the colon can prevent the yeast from taking over again. This can be accomplished by taking probiotics, either in capsule form or by eating yogurt, sauerkraut or kefir. Consuming just a small amount of these beneficial health foods on a daily basis can prevent the yeast from growing out of control again.

    Patch the Holes
Once the excess yeast is gone from the colon the holes that are left behind must be patched. This is what causes the symptoms of leaky gut syndrome. The easiest way to accomplish this is by taking glutamine powder. The powder is an amino acid that aids in cellular repair. As with the other supplements needed for leaky gut repair, the glutamine powder can be purchased at any health food store. It may be consumed up to three times each day by adding 1/4 tsp. to juice or other health drink. The powder can work best when it is taken between meals.

    I used colostrum and l-glutamine.

You have probably already come across all this information but just thought I would add when you mentioned the candida problem.

Thanks for the info. My biggest problem with candida is that I can't attack it aggressively due to the hideous migraines I get from the die off reaction. If it were to only last a few days I could stand it, but I've had it last about 2 weeks where I couldn't even get out of bed. I get to the point where I just can't stand any more. I'm constantly trying to find gentle treatments that I can gradually step up etc.

Sounds like you have got a serious overgrowth . I don't know if you have tried protein-digesting enzyme protease but it is supposed to help significantly with die off and of course lots and lots of water to help flush out the nasties and your bowels need to be moving and regular this is very important so might be wise to do a colon cleanse at the same time to ensure you are elimanating regularly.

I never had a problem with BV until my husband got a vasectomy and we quit using protection(condoms). Now i've had it 3 times just in the last year since his vasectomy.

I am wondering if semen can cause a PH imbalance in the vagina?

Also,my gyno told me that sometimes BV can be caused from bacteria in the shaft of the mans penis. if i continued getting BV he wanted to try treating my husband also.
