I am new to this forum but have had BV for nearly a year since having a baby. I didn't have it all during my pregnancy. Just like everyone I am miserable. I do have a lot of swelling which I don't recall reading about in other posts. I have been tested by my doc and tried antibiotics but it came back.

I have read on the internet about someone name Kristin Tomlin, I believe that is her name, who has written a downloadable book about a three day cure of BV. It claims that she did a lot of research and has found a way to help women with this terrible affliction. Has anyone tried this?? I haven't seen anyone write about it, but I haven't made it through every page of this forum.

    Thanks!

    Default helped me...

    Good Morning ladies,
I have been suffering from chronic BV for 5 years. I found something that gave me relief overnight. Maybe it has already been discussed here, but I think it's worth listing again. I had tried using Jarrow probitics vaginally, and the smell was gone. However, I had a lot of discharge and discomfort, I'm not sure if it was from the BV or the capsule causing irriation. So, at the tale end of my period (when the smell could wake the dead)...I opened the capsule (carefully, very carefully lol) and poured it into a gelatin capsule that I purchased from the health food store. I inserted it vaginally. No discomfort. no odor, no white gunky discharge!!!! Please if you all haven't tried this, give it a shot!!! I'm not sure how often I will have to use these to prevent it from returning..but I will let you know. Best of Luck! I'm very very happy!! I think my prayers have been answered.

    Default Keeping my fingers crossed...

This is the first time I've posted on this forum, but I've read through many of the hundreds of pages of posts and I understand completely what you are all going through.

The first time I was diagnosed with BV was about 2-3 years ago, I was given ONE (or maybe it was 2) pills, I don't recall the name of it- but it did the trick and it went away. It didn't come back for at least a year and a half, UNTIL I went back to sleeping with the guy I had been sleeping when I had first been diagnosed with BV- and of course it returned (even though the doctor swore it wasn't sexually transmitted). They gave me the flagyl pills, it went away for a couple of months and then of course it came back. So I cut that guy off completely and figured that would solve my problems. It didn't. A couple months later it came back- it didn't make sense to me that it was sexually transmitted, but maybe I was just sensitive to whatever soap the guy was using? Maybe? I dont know. Well I got the Flagyl Pills again, and it went away.

Well I haven't messed with that guy since then but I have still had BV about 4 or 5 times in 2009- January 2010. That just ridiculous. I've taken Flagyl multiple times and the metronidazole gel twice. Nothing has worked. These past couple months I've taken the meds and then been BV free for a week or 2 before it returned again. Well I got sick of taking the medications prescribed by the doctors because they clearly weren't working for me. Plus I don't have health insurance so I can't afford to go to the gyno for a visit or pay $85 for the metronidazole gel.

So I tried something new- and I'm keeping my fingers crossed because so far its helped. I noticed the BV was coming back a couple weeks ago and I knew I wasn't going to get another refill of the medication so instead I went and got the rephresh pro-b vitamins, some hydrogen peroxide, and the VH Essentials BV Treatment- Homeopathic Rime-Release Vaginal insert (From CVS- about $25 dollars). Day 1 I started taking the pro-b vitamins, "cleaned" out my vag with some hydrogen peroxide to get the worst out and help the good bacteria multiply. Then at bed I used the first (of 6) inserts. on Day 2 I could already tell it was working, so I continued the next 5 days of inserts that come in the box while taking the rephresh pro-b vitamins everyday and its been over a week and I feel completely clean. Not only is the BV gone, but I can smell the NORMAL smell again. Of course this has happened with every medication i've taken then its always returned, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm going to continue to take the rephresh pro biotic vitamins everyday to maintain a healthy vagina. Hopefully this keeps everything balanced.

My theory is this: something threw my balance off and although the medications were able to get rid of the BV, it wasn't able to keep my vagina balanced, so thats why it kept coming back, which is why I'm taking these vitamins, in hopes that it can actually do what the bottle says, which is to maintain the balance and flora of a healthy vagina.

    I definitely suggest this treatment.

    1 rephresh pro-b vitamin
daily (bought at Walmart- or any drug store)
    hydrogen peroxide
VH Essentials BV Treatment- Homeopathic Rime-Release Vaginal insert (1 insert at night for 6 nights) (Can find at CVS and Rite Aid I believe)

I will keep you updated on whether or not it returns, so far so good though and it started working immediately.

    Good luck everyone!

    Default has anyone tried...?

I came across a fruit called ladyfinger that has been used to treat bacterial vaginosis. Has anyone tried it before? I have read through the thread, I didn't see it mentioned. I'm not even sure of where to buy it.
I'm still trying to figure out how often I should insert the probiotics vaginally..it's been two and half months since I have had to deal with an odor, but I'm not sexually active right now either.

Maybe someone has some insight to this...
If lactobacillus are bacteria that require oxygen to survive then how do they live without oxygen stuffed in a capsule?
If they have to be kept cool in fridge to protect them..and then they are ingested/inserted into the body that is 98.6 degrees..

I'm just trying to figure out how to support/help them colonize.

I try to keep up to date with the lastest research of probiotics so if anyone comes across anything please post it or message me.

The last I had seen vaginal probiotics were in phase 2 in clinical trials.

SUFFINGFROMBV: I was the one who originally tried the Vogel Molkosan and it worked for a while then seemed to irritate me. I was using it full strength, are you using it full strength? How are you inserting it?

As for me, I have not been able to completely cure my BV but for the past year I have been sick with abdominal pain and lots of stomach issues. After a year of testing and tons of ultrasounds, and MRI and an endoscopic ultrasound I have found out: A: That I have 3 benign liver tumors and one benign pancreatic tumor, and B: That I have Celiac Disease (a severe incapability of ingesting any gluten). Since cutting out all gluten from my diet and giving it time I have found that my BV has seriously reduced. I have a feeling that the longer I continue with this the better it will get. I was suffering from severe malabsorption so I was getting almost no nutrition from my food because of the celiac disease so my immune system was really suffering. I also discovered that if I apply aloe vera to my external vaginal area after sex it is really soothing and reduces my BV like reactions.

    Default Whew...

I am glad that I stumbled across this site. I really thought something was wrong with me, because I suffered with BV off and on (more on than off)! After reading just about every post on this site regarding BV, I decided to try a few suggestions. What has worked so far for me (knock on wood, and thank GOD) are the Rephresh capsules, acidophilus probiotics, Vitamin C, Folic Acid, and 2 cranberry pills daily. The odor went away within a day. I have been on this regimine for about three days, and now my period is on. I am still taking my pills mentioned above in hopes that when my period goes off, I won't have that funky smell. I just want to be back to normal. I want my discharge to be normal without any nasty odor. When I have BV my discharge is thick and pasty in consistency, whereas when I am normal it's not. I will keep everyone updated on the progress. Good luck everyone and keep us posted.
