    Angry chronic bacterial vaginosis

I know i am not the only person in the world that deals with bacterial vaginosis. Is there a cure that i do not know about. If my doctor gives me flagyl aka mitrodonizale one more time Im going to scream. The drug works but about a month or two later it cames back. I usually notice it right after my cycle goes off or I notice a fishy odor after sex. I was wondering it bv is just a ph imbalance it their anything I can do to balance my ph? If any of you ladies have advice it would be very helpful

I went through a spell where I kept getting BV as well. A lot of things can cause recurrences of BV. Most of it is the same things that trigger a yeast infection.

You need to avoid using any kind of vaginal cleansers or chemicals (even if you get that fishy odor). Using anything such as douche will only make it worse. Avoid taking bubble baths or getting any soap in the vagina. Do not use cleansing wipes or vaginal deoderants either.

Wear breathable panties. Preferably cotton. Try to wear loose clothing. The key is to help reduce excess moisture.

Make sure that you and your partner always wash your hands and private areas before and after any sort of sexual contact. This will help prevent spreading the bacteria which causes BV. Make sure that if you use any sort of toys, that you always clean them with soap and rinse them thoroughly.

The medications that are given for BV are indeed cures. They completely cure you of BV. The problem is that you are reinfecting yourself somehow. It's usually due to one of the situations I described above. I know that when I have had it, I was given one pill and that was all I had to take for that occurance.

    Default Chronic Bacterial Infection

I too have chonic bacterial infections. I had a hysterectomy about 8 months ago and have been dealing with a bacterial infection for 5 1/2 months now. My infection doesn't go away and come back it NEVER goes away. I went to a new OB/GYN about 2 months ago and she said it was just a PH imbalance and she gave me 4 months of antibiotics to be used no more than once a month. I tried just about everything. Antiobiotics, yogurt, tea tree oil, Rephresh, acidophilus. Nothing works. I do everything they say you should do. I wear cotton underwear, loose clothing, use detergent, fabric softner and soap that is perfume and dye free. I've even cut down on my sugar intake. I honestly think there is an underlying problem causing the bacterial infection and not the "PH imbalance". I think something happened during my hysterectomy (i.e., ovary or hormone malfunction). But the doctor said it has nothing to do with my surgery. If you have found something that works, please let me know and I will go the same. Take care.

same here. I had surgery on my cervix about 2 years ago. I have had bv every since then . My doctor said the same thing it has nothing to do with surgery. I have tried vaginally and orally taking acidohllis pills while taking metrodonizale orally. I also have notice even if I do not have visible symptoms when i go to my gyn I always have traces of it. I hope they find a cure soon cause it is very frustating. If you have any suggestions please let me know and I will do the same for you.

Unfortunately, the cure IS the Metrodonizale. It does, in fact, eliminate the infection. For some reason, you women are just not responding too well. I find it odd that there are already several of you here with the same situations. I will try to do some research and see if I can find anything more about this and if there could possibly be any correlation with the surgeries.

    Dear AFemaleProdigy,
You said that Metrodonizale is the cure. My GYN has me on Clindesse (once monthly, but I refuse to take it anymore because not only does it not give me any relief, I now get a yeast infection on top of that). Should I have her write me a prescription for Metrodonizale? For me, my bv does go away and come back, it NEVER GOES AWAY! Most of the things you suggested on you 6/13/06 posting I have done and been doing for months now with absolutely no relief. I wear cotton underwear, loose clothing, do not use cleansing wipes or vaginal deoderants or take bubble baths. I have also switched my laundry detergent, fabric softener and body soap to no dye/perfume. I have seen no reprieve at all. My boyfriend and I even stopped having sex for about 1/2 months and I saw no improvement. I've been taking acidophilus tablets daily for about 3 1/2 months now as well as eating yogurt will active cultures. Thanks in advance for doing some research on this subject. I'm to the point now (going on 6 months) where I will do just about anything to cure this beast!

    Have a good day.

There are, in fact, more then one brand of medication to treat BV. As with any medication, everyone can react differently to each med. It may be possible that your system is immune to the brand that your doctor is prescribing you. It may be a good idea to ask to try something different.

Give me some time to contact some physicians and see if I can get some different opinions.

    Default Me too

I too suffer from chronic vaginosis. I don't understand what I am doing wrong, I wear cotton underwear, don't use detergents. I read somewhere that bacteria from feces can cause vaginosis. Is this true? I always take Metrodonizale and other anibotics and it goes away for a little while then comes back.
