Ok so I'm pretty sure I have an infection down there. It's been itchy for the past couple of days and I have this thick smelly discharge. The thing is I don't know if its bacterial or what. I'm pretty sure it's a yeast infection though. I mean I do color guard so I'm in the sun for hours every day doing physical exercise and sweating. So I'm guessing that's how I got it. So I was wondering if there are any home remedies I could do to make it go away? I really wanna avoid going to the doctor or buying some expensive treatment. Help is greatly appreciated. Also, could it be anything else but a yeast infection?
Basically it could be either yeast or bacteria. The treatment for one would FEED the other, so you need to find out which one it is first. You can buy a kit at the store to pH test yourself. I don't know how much it costs. Can you ask your mom to help you diagnose it? Despite having had an extremely poor mother-daughter relationship when I was a teen, that's how I learned to tell what a yeast infection was.
Best case scenario, regardless of what kind of infection it is, it will go away on its own.
Make sure that your underwear is loose enough and made of COTTON. Also, make sure whatever bottoms you wear are loose, breathable, and comfortable. I'm familiar with the kind of movement colorguard requires, and I suggest you stay away from denim shorts while practicing. Don't vigorously wash your vulva or douche; the vagina is largely a self-cleaning organ and shouldn't need more than rinsing to keep it clean. Drink PLENTY of water! You mention sweating for hours. You need to make sure you stay hydrated not just for your overall health, but also for your vaginal health.
You can add baking soda to your bathwater (or make a paste of baking soda and water to apply to your vulva) to help assuage the itching in the case of a yeast infection. I'm not sure if this works for bacteria.
Hope this helps you clear things up.
