I've been experiencing pelvic pain on the left side intermittently for about 6 months. Just received the results of an ultrasound but cannot get in to see a gynecologist until Sept 26 and was worried about possibly needing surgery. I'm 50 years old, never had kids, and have been experiencing increased pain during my periods as well as increased flow for about 9 months. I just started a full class load at the university and only have until Sep 6 to drop classes, which I would need to do if anything other than day surgery is in my future.
Ultrasound result is as follows:
The uterus is borderline enlarged measuring 10.9 x 4.3 x 3.8 cm. There is a nabothian cyst at the cervix measuring 6 mm. The endometrium is reasonably uniform in echotexture, measuring up to 9 mm in thickness at the fundus. No solid uterine masses are seen. Both ovaries are identified with the right measuring 2.8 x 2.8 x 2.8 cm and the left measuring 2.6 x 1.4 x 1.2 cm. Withing the left ovary there is a 10 mm cystic lesion with internal echoes and mild wall irregularity. The appearance favors a hemorrhagic cyst. No solid adnexal masses are identified. No free pelvic fluid. There is no hydronephrosis.
IMPRESSION:
1. Somewhat prominent endometrium at the fundus measuring 9 mm.
2. Hemorrhagic appearing cyst in the left ovary.
3. Tiny nabothian cyst at the cervix.
