Thread: bacterial vaginosis and sexual partners

I am 35 years old and have bacterial vaginosis for the first time. It definitely seems to have started since I have been with my current boyfriend. For those who have had it chronically - does it seem to go away if you change to a different sexual partner? I am worried about all the posts I am reading about it recurring over and over despite treatment. I am not suggesting I would leave him for this reason... but still- it seems like a bad problem to have for a lifetime, and I never had any trouble before this.

I'm surprised that your doctor actually told you it's related to the new guy, this is a case of trying to get through as many patients as possible within a day, and just textbook diagnosis. BV is caused by the inbalace of the bacteria in your vagina, technically it's not really an infection. Before you dump your new partner, you should try to find out what the main cause of your bacterial vaginosis, no doctor will do this for you and the antibiotics will only provide a temporary fix. As the other poster had mentioned, this can be by the food you eat (but if you had been eating the same food for the past 35 years without any problem then it might not be that), stress, douching, smoking, birth control, IUD, soaps, or could also be caused by the new guy (you just need to figure this out).
