Hello,
I realize that the first post I make is in this section and I apologise, I will be around to introduce myself properly momentarily.
I'm just quite freaked out. I'm 25 and went to the doctors today to have my cervical smear. The past couple of months I've had some bleeding between peiods, mainly during typical ovulation times but its never happened before so I thought I'd go and get checked plus I haven't had a smear in two years so I am due one.
Anyway, I went today and the nurse couldn't do it because she said she couldn't see the cervix because of all the discharge. I asked her whether that happened a lot and she said no but was going to send off a swab to test for STIs and Non STI infections.
I had a full test not long ago and it was clear and I haven't had sexual partners since so I'm pretty sure its not an STI so now I'm all worried that something is wrong, the past couple of smears they managed to take fine and now no...?
Somebody please put my mind at ease here and say this has happened before??
I'm quite upset as I hate getting a smear in the first place and not going to be able to stop worrying now.![]()
You could have a non sexually transmitted infection. Are you experiencing anything else, like itching or odd odor? Irritation? Could be a bacterial infection that can be resolved with some antibiotics. Could be a yeast infection.
It could also be that you are smack dab right in the midst of ovulation. "Discharge" which I prefer to call Cervical Fluid that occurs around and during ovulation is normal and healthy. It should be whitish (white/offwhite) and could be lotiony, milky, or even stretchy like elastic or like egg-whites. Some women produce more than others.
The unknown is always scary. But try to rest assured that you had an STI test and everything came back negative, you haven't been with anyone since so the chances you have anything like that are pretty slim.
