Hi all. I'm a 25 year old female, overweight (220 pounds). I have no previous medical history or anything. Well, within the past year my period has been so erratic, very irregular. I can't be on Birth Control because I always get headaches and nausea. I've tried several and I don't want to be on them. My GYNO wanted me to have a blood test and an internal sonogram. Well, everything was normal. I had a multiple follicles on my ovary but they didn't say anything about that. Everything in my blood came back good except for prolactin being 97. It's supposed to be 20 or below. He wanted me to get an MRI on my brain, and it turns out I have a tiny 3.3mm tumour on my pituitary gland that is making my prolactin increase. He said this could be the reason why my periods are so irregular. Sometimes I won't get a period for 2 months, and then sometimes I'll spot for 1 month straight.
He put me on Parlodel (Bromocriptine) 2.5mg a day to see if that would lower the prolactin and hopefully regulate my period. He tested my prolactin again 2 weeks later and it dropped down to 5! Well that was great news he said, so he said he wanted me to stay on it for another 6 months to see if my period will get back to normal.
Well, I've been on it since October. I got my period Sept 6th, then I got it Oct. 17th. In the past, I usually get it 35-40ish days. Well, November I never got a period. I spotted for 4 days. On December 14th I started spotting again, only blood when I wipe, never have to wear anything. It was heavy for about 5 days in December, then went back to spotting up until today, 1/11!! So basically I've been spotting for a month. Today it's heavy like a period. I can't take it anymore. I called my doctor and he wants to see me next week and do another internal and more blood work. It's so annoying, like no one can give me an answer. He also checked my thyroid 4 months ago and it was normal. Then I got it checked again and it was 5.5 and the highest it's supposed to be is 3.9. He said I can work with him about microadenoma (benign tumour on pituitary gland) & my thryoid level, or an endocrinologist. Should I just have him help me or do you think I should see an endocrinologist. All I want is to get my period once a month, not every day!
I'm also getting worried that I'll never be able to have kids. My dr. said he doesn't think I'm ovulating. I get all nervous thinking about in the future if I have to take certain medications to help me get pregnant, then ending up getting pregnant with triplets! I'm scared ...
Hi there!
I also have microadenoma ( I have three) and suffer daily with them. I would definitely suggest seeing an endocrinologist. Mine did wonders for me! Dont worry about the pregnancy thing. It will happen eventually. They get better![]()
