Default Cervix off to one side? Should I be worried? Am I retroverted?

    Hello,

Let me start off by saying this is my first post here. I'm a healthy woman in her mid-twenties. I have never had a child. I'm very petite in stature, and don't have any major gynecological concerns, except one small thing:

I go in for a routine pap smear (once every 3 years now). When I first started going in for them, the doctor didn't say anything about my lady parts, except that my cervix was nice and far back, though still very easy to get to. She said this was normal, and expected in a young woman who has never had children. She also mentioned it was normal for the time in my cycle. She never told me my uterus was retroverted or anything and I never asked. I went to another dr in the same center, and she didn't make any comments. The next year I went to a different medical center to have my pap done. The doctor noticed I was a little uncomfortable with the speculum (I'm always nervous and and as a result uncomfy during my paps unless someone distracts me) and mentioned it was probably a little uncomfortable because my cervix was off to the side a little. This alarmed me because none of the other drs had ever mentioned this. I was honestly a little shaky after my pap so I didn't think to ask too many questions. I really started to think about it, and I went online to try and see if I could find any info about it, and the only thing I could find was info about retroverted/tipped uterus. So what I'm asking is: does the fact that my cervix slants a little to one side probably mean my uterus is tipped/retroverted? I certainly hope not as I hear you are at an increased risk for uterine prolapse if your uterus is retroverted (also, how true is this if you never plan to have children?)

Just wondering... any help would be much appreciated!

Your uterus sort of shifts around and as a result the cervix will move along with it, it is normal to have it off to the one side one day and normal placement the next. Add in nerves and it is not uncommon for it to be displaced altogether. Is it a concern? No. Not unless the doctor says so. Believe your doctor.

Thank you for your reply! I had no idea my cervix moved around. I always thought it was stationary, but the more I read about it, the more I'm learning. It's quite fascinating...apparently it can move up down and side to side. I'll have to ask my doctor more questions this year.
