I 20 years old and have just finished my period. Towards the end of each period it goes a dark brown and is thick. After my period my vagina gets irritated, but settles down after a few days, but I get a discharge that can vary from clear in colour to a yellowish-brown discharge that will vary in intensity between my periods. It also has an unusual odour.
Is this just my hormornes or is it an infection like thrush? Thanks for your help |

Hello.
It sounds like it may be a recurrent infection, like yeast (thrush) or bacterial vaginosis. I don't know if it has anything to do with hormones, but some women just get them more than others. I used to have the same problem (either yeast or bv) after most periods until I had my first child, and now I might get an infection once a year. It was so common for me that I started buying medicines over the counter in the drug store instead of getting prescriptions from my gyn (not exactly the best way to go, but I was fed up with it). Talk to your gyn to find out exactly what's going on and the best way to treat it.
