I'm a bit in a panic and I'm hoping someone can put me at ease.....
Last week (around Thursday) I started having a bit of pain in my vaginal area and really only noticed it when I went to the bathroom and would wipe. I just kind of ignored it and figured it would go away.(this happen when i did not wear underwear with a pair of jeans so I just thought maybe I had irritated this area because of that) Well today....(Monday) after taking a shower I have noticed that closer towards my clitoris things seem to be a bit swollen and sensitve. As far as oder or discharge things seem to be normal. I have been reading a bit and read where a yeast infection can make things swollen, I have never had a yeast infection before and I thought discharge and maybe an oder when be present if this were the case. Anyway...I'm kind freaked out and not sure what to think...I was thinking of making appt. with my Dr. however it takes weekes to get in and see him...and I really don't want to go to a walk in clinic or emerg. and have some Dr. that I don't even know examine me. Any suggestions?? |

A yeast infection might show some changes in texture or color of discharge, but it's not usually much. Yeast infections are also not usually the cause of odor. The trademark symptoms of yeast infection are itching which starts out minor and can get extremely aggressive if left untreated, some swelling, possible buring and the area will feel hot to the touch, and redness. The itching is usually your garauntee that it's a yeast infection. You can buy over the counter medication such as Vagisil to take care of that.
It is possible that it is just a skin irritation from heat, moisture, or friction. Or it could be what is similar to a pimple growing in (an infected pore). Those are common and nothing to be afraid of. Of course, there is always the possibillity of an STD. I am not sure if you are sexually active. If it is just slight swelling and redness at this point, there is no way to know for sure. It could be too early to tell. If it starts to turn into a growth, large abcess, blister, or open wound, then you most likely have an STD. In that case your would need to see a doc immediately. If the swelling and redness persist for several days without letting up or if it gets worse, you should see a gynecolosist. In the mean time, keep the area clean and try to control the moisture by wearing loose clothing and cotton panties. You can use cold compresses to help reduce swelling and irritation. |
