Exclamation yeast infection? something else? help!

i dont have insurance at the moment so going to the doctor is probably going to get pricey especially if i have to pay for the tests. please help!

it started with some itchiness but no odor or weird discharge ..i checked out webmd and they recommended that if it was a yeast infection it might go away on its own so just wait it out.
i thought it was but considering that i never had a yeast infection before maybe i was wrong. anyhow, i guess without thinking i had sex and this yeast infection (or so i thought) became something else. now i have what i can describe as a horrible fishy smell and cottage cheesey discharge but no itch. i cant tell what color the discharge is because i still have my period but im scared that i might have waited too long and now this infection is becoming something worse.

can anyone give me advice because at this point i have no where else to turn....i tried looking for free clinics in ny but from what i know its gonna be a long wait so what do i do?

Im no doctor, but the symptoms you are describing are similar to another ladies thread.

The fishy odour and cottage cheese like discharge are symptoms of bacterial vaginosis - a bacterial infection caused by inbalances of pH in the vagina. You will need antibiotics, although if you read the thread entitled "chronic bacterial vaginosis" - youll probably notice that antibiotics dont always work. Also, the thread will help you with further advice, such as natural remedies to try.

Definitely go and see someone asap, the longer you leave it, the worse itll get. Even if its going to see a free drop in session at a sexual health clinic.

Usually, the symptoms are worse after a period...i have no idea why this is but im just letting you know as i dont want you to think its "gone away by itself" after your period.

Good luck hun. In the meantime, minimise the use of scented soap, (even though i know youll probably want to wash as much as possible!) when i had BV i used to just bathe myself with water only. Wear cotton underwear too. Hope this helps a bit.

I agree - it sounds like BV. Plz go to the doc. Don't let this go. Take care!
