Default Cervicitis???

Before I'll start, I'll just go ahead and put a warning here that I'm going into a *little* bit of detail, just to fully describe my problem.

About 2 months ago I went to the doctor with vaginal burning and discharge. She prescribed me fluconazole for a yeast infection and sent me on my way.

I completed the fluconazole treatment and I still had irritation and a yellow discharge. Thinking the yeast infection was still there, I treated it with monistat, but the symptoms didn't go away. So I went back to the doctor.

The doctor this time said she found no yeast but that I had cervicitis. She prescribed doxycycline for this. I did the treatment for 6 of 7 days and the symptoms didn't improve at all. I went back to the doc, where she did a culture and said the doxycycline was working, it just hadn't done its job all the way. So she gave me metronidazole, saying she "saw evidence" of what might be bacterial vaginosis. She also tested me for chlamydia (negative). I'm one pill away from completing these new antibiotics, and I STILL have yellow, gooey discharge and a burning sensation.

It sounds like my doctor's kind of shooting in the dark...but I've read that antibiotics don't always work for cervicitis and you might have to have other treatment. I can't get back to the doctor until next week (on my menstrual cycle now...) and I'm starting to panic about all of this. I don't know if my doctor's just guessing as to what's going on (keep in mind, she's a general practitioner at a college health center) or if I really have something wrong that's not going away. Has anyone had a similar experience, or know anything about what might be going on???
