Question Different smell? How do you know yeast vs BV?

My cycle is ususally about 5 weeks long, but that is normal for me. Last cycle, I had some heavy spotting durring the middle of my cycle, but not as much as a light flow period. Then I had a normal period. I'm 30 and that was the first time I've ever had any bleeding in the middle of a cycle.

Now, I'm starting to spot again, about three weeks after my last period. It isn't red "spots" on my panties, but the "normal" vaginal secreation is tinted brown (normal consistancy and volume that is). Also it smells like, well, like infection. It isn't like the nomal must/musk/moist "healthy" smell. More, sour, I guess.

I know what a yeast infection in an animal's ear or on their skin smells like (I work for a veterinarian) but I haven't ever had a vaginal yeast infection. Can anyone out there tell me if a vaginal yeast infection has a similar smell to a dog's ear yeast infection? Almost like rank white bread or spoiled beer (sorry for that description, I just don't know how else to describe that "yeasty" smell). My discharge doesn't smell similar to what I think of as "yeasty." It makes me think of an infected wound.

I also thought a vaginal yeast infection had a "cheesey" or "chunky" distcharge. My "discharge" is normal texture, so I'm very confused.

I am so disgusted. To make matters worse, my husband and I had a very romantic date tonight.... he took me to the symphony (not something he usually thinks of!!!) and sex is definately off limits until I see the doctor. Of course it is Friday, so I can't call to make a GYNO appointment until Monday.

Anyone able to shed some light on this?? I'm going crazy wondering and I don't want to wait till I get an appointment to at least know what this is!!!!!

What a nice date to go to with your husband ...im sorry this happend...i think its just a yeast infection ...if it was BV that has quite an obvious and very distinctive odour , but great your seeing the gyne , they will be able to take a look and confirm for you , it just sounds like a minor thing ...

Hope you feel better soon , dont worry
