Hi there, my name is Tripton, I'm 44, and suffer from Chronic Nerve Pain (Sciatic,Back & Arm). I am on about 5 different Meds., and the main one is Methadone ( they say it helps with nerve pain) who-ever they is??But anyways, all these meds have caused my body to go it to premature Menopause, I haven't had my period since starting the Methadone (5-6yrs now).
A few weeks ago I noticed my outer area of my vagina being very red and sore, and to top it off;bleeding! Sex with my husband had become very excrusiating! After a shower one evening I asked my husband to have a look under the hood, what he found was a long scratch, looking very sore. So I went to the doctor and she had a look and told me my skin has become so dry it was sticking together and ripping, she prescribed a cream and sent me on my way, she never bothered to tell me how to prevent this( and I was to embarassed to ask!). So I'm reaching out to you all, hoping someone will have an answer!
    Thanks!

    Hi Tripton.

I do feel for you, suffering any Chronic Pain on-going is depressing let alone agonising.

I had Chronic pain in my shoulder and hip due to a fall in 1999, i am 44. I would not go on such medication but off course, attempted injections to release, Panadene Forte, alcohol, what ever to relieve it, it was excruciating ..

I over come the whole lot, just due to me trying different things, heat bags, exercise, determination and weened myself of Panadene Fort and put up with it, until it got to a level i could cope with. I even dry a manual car now which i was told i could never do, and type away, funny about that, post wise, which also aggravates the pain, but i chose to not take all the drugs.

Now i am not saying that you shouldn't don't get me wrong, short of operations that don't work these days what are you meant to do?

But if it has bought on early symptoms that women don't usually get at this age, which in turn ( i am not sure if your dryness happens from menopause ) someone else needs to answer that, but it you are now suffering something else, and in such a sensitive area and one that is intimate with your partner, you NEED answers not just solutions.

Go and get a second opinion is what i would be suggesting.

I get quite upset of Doctors prescribing, yet not describing?

Why go to a Doctor if you only want a cure, you want to know what caused it how to avoid it as well as an immediate solution.

The drugs you take for instance may be high? Too high and you may be better of on a different combination, or eliminating one, you may be co-dependent now, and need different solutions there as well.

Doctors need to LISTEN and act, not add more to your prescriptions.

    Hope that makes sense.

Sorry if i sound a bit perturbed but who would have thought i could find alternatives such as massage, heat bags and in the end, half forget the pain, verses all the drugs they offered?

Please get a second opinion and explain everything, absolutely everything you are feeling and have been feeling... If they shrug you off, then get another one, and another until you get the answers you deserve.

CHANDLERS WISH gave a lot of good advice. I couldn't agree more to really ask your doc questions or get another opinion. My heart goes out to you. I have been through this for years with doctors prescribing and not describing. It seems to be so common. You have to learn to advocate for yourself. The things docs should be telling you, they don't. I always research and go in with tons of questions. I wish you luck and relief with all of your ailments. Hang in there and take care!

Did your doctor give you a cream called Premarin? Premarin is the one I've heard of; I'm sure there are generic brands and other brand names of the same type of cream.

That is an external vaginal cream with estrogen properties. It is supposed to make the skin in that area more moist and plump, so you won't experience that feeling anymore. Its specifically for women with menopause.

    Good luck!
