What's wrong with me?!
Hi there
I'm new to this site and could really do with some help. I have no idea what's wrong with me and, it seems, neither do my doctors! About three weeks ago i went for a smear test and a few hours after that these symptoms started to occur 'down there': itching and burning (especially when weeing). I thought it was thrush and treated it using over the counter meds but this didn't work. By the time I got an appointment with my doctor the itching had reduced slightly but the burning had got worse. My doctor said she didn't think it was thrush and I had some swabs and a urine sample taken. The swabs were not for any STDs as I've had the same partner for 2 years now. Whilst waiting for the results another doctor tried me on thrush medictaion again as she was convinced that was what it was still but this failed again. Two weeks later the results have come back and are all clear but the burning is still there and occasional itching. My doctor has given up and told me to go to a GUM clinic. The only thing I've found that helps is diluted tea tree oil dapped on the area but as soon as I stop using it the symptoms all worsen again. The burning gets worse when my bladder is full, when I wee and when I push down with my pelvic floor muscles but i do not constantly need to got to the toilet like with a urine infection and the urine test was clean anyway. So does anyone have any suggestions as to what this could be? Could it be BV or cystitis even though the results were clear. I have not changed my washing powder or fabric softener etc recently and since this started I have only washed with water. Please help. I'm starting to get desperate!

Did they definately rule out a yeast infection?

Yes they did rule out yeast infection - this test was also negative and while they were waiting for the results to come back they tried treating me with oral meds for yeast infection. No need to say they failed. There's no chance of STDs either. I'm sure it's either BV and/or a UTI (although both these tests negative too). I forgot to mention before, i have no odour or discharge - do these have to be present with BV? Since my last post I've been using acidophilus which has stopped the itching and vaginal burning. However, I'm still left with slight burning when I pee and an uncomfortable burning feeling that feels a bit like it's in my bladder / urinary tract. I don't feel an urgent need to pee all the time as normally happens with a UTI but the burning feeling makes it feel a bit like I need to even when I don't. Could they have missed something in the urine test? Is cystitis different from a UTI? Could I infact now just be left with cystitis after treating BV with acidophilus? Please help. I'm getting really worried and the doctor just won't help.

Forgot to say - sometimes I get a slight sort of dull throbbing pain at the top of my public bone as well. Is this a symptom of cystitis?

Sorry - not 'public', I meant pubic bone!!

Just a thought - is there anyway you could have injured yourself in that area? Your pubic area can bruise and, because there are so many nerve endings in that part of your body, I would imagine it's possible for soft tissue injury to cause internal pain. I'm not sure - I'm not a doctor or anything, I just know that after I cracked my pelvic bone this winter I've been a little more probe to pain during sex. Cheers, i hope you find an answer soon.
