Unhappy Discharge, yeast infection....how can I tell?!?!?

For those of you who didn't see my recent post about a weird discharge problem...basically, I've had a heavy yellow discharge and burning sensation since February, but after testing for all infections and std's the doctor still can't figure out what's going on.

In my other post, I also talked about having problems with yeast infections. The problem is, since my symptoms are already semi-yeast infection related, it's getting to the point where I can't REALLY tell if I have one or not. I usually have burning in the vaginal area daily and I constantly have this odd discharge...but this has been going on for months and at the dr's office I only showed yeast in a culture ONE time. So if you were in my situation, how would you tell if you had a *real* yeast infection or if you were just confusing symptoms you've already been having? I've seen the doctor 6 times since February and I can't keep going back, so should I just treat it if I think I might have one?

And on that same note, if I treat it with an OTC medicine every time (like Monistat), is there such a thing as "too much"? Like, will using Monistat too often make things worse down there or will it make my body less likely to fight it off? Plus, I can't find any info about using Monistat on a regular basis, and I don't know what any long-term effects might be?

Any insight on this or any helpful info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't understand why your Doctor hasn't eliminated that it's not a yeast infection.. It showed once, but they didn't suggest you try Monistat? Or even home remedies such as natural yogurt, bathing in salt and vinegar with warm water?

I'd see a Doctor again, just not that one.

As for how many times, ask the Chemist where it is sold, and explain the above, you don't need a prescription for that and they know the answers to that particular question.

I'd give anything a try to see if i can eliminate that type of discomfort and seek answers.

No, I have been treated by the doctor for a yeast infection...twice. I've used Monistat 3 times since February and taken (I believe) 4 Diflucan pills. I've also been treated for BV and cervicitis, but nothing the doctor prescribes will work. So now what I'm left with are symptoms of several different infections, so now when I think I *may* have a yeast infection, I'm not sure if it's just my symptoms flaring up or if it really is something I should treat. I have an appointment with another doctor, but it's not for 3 weeks, so in the meantime I need to do *something*.........

    Oh dear, poor thing.

So none of those treatments worked at that time, or they came back?

I gage the impression that short lived, but it worked for a while, hense you are wanting to establish if it is dangerous to have another dose of that treatment.

Try the hot bath and yoghurt at least both are natural and will ease suffering and as i said, speak to a Pharmasist regarding usuage and dosages.

I have another home rememdy you may want to try also. Put some apple vinegar in your hot bath water a few times a week. At least a half cup or more. Also, try drinking some apple vinegar. Just a few spoonfuls once a day, followed by cold water to wash it down...or maybe mix the apple vinegar in with cranberry juice. Think about getting some folic acid tablets from your neighborhood drug store, maybe some cranberry pills also.

Thanks, I might try that...I take cranberry pills regularly anyway to prevent UTIs, but I'll go ahead and do the whole vinegar thing and see if it helps. At this point, I'm willing to try anything!

    Default Some thoughts..

Do keep in mind that once the flora of your bodies bacteria goes out of balance, candida yeast will overpower. I'd suggest that you try and find an anti candida regime. Do avoid eating any sugar and try to find a good anti candida pill to take for a bit. I'm not big on any of the pharmaceuticals as I do think they only put a bandaid on any problem rather then getting to the root of what it is and fixing it. You might even try looking into the wonders of coconut oil. These are all things that can help to bring the yeast thing back in balance for you.

    Default yellow discharge

I too have yellow discharge. The consistency is the same as when you are ovulating..slimy, there is no odor, but there is alot of it and I do have the burning along with it. I just got treated with Clindese and Diflucan about 1 1/2 weeks ago and I have been taking acidophilus and cranberry pills. I'm not sure what this is. What are the signs of Clamydia, and Gonorrhea? Don't there have to be a foul odor and pelvic pain. I've been dealing with BV and Yeast for so long now, I can't tell the difference anymore either.

    Thanks
    K

I'm not at all sure what the signs of Clamydia and Gonorrhea are but the you are certainly on the right track with the acidophilus and cranberry pills. The acidophilus is a probiotic and that will help you to try and readjust your internal flora. We are all filled with good and bad bacteria and when the bad bacteria takes over, that is when the candida yeast will overpower. When you take cranberry capsules, something in the cranberry adheres to the bladder wall and doesn't allow the bacteria to grow there. I've been taking 2 cranberry capsules daily for years and have not had a bladder infection since doing so. I know that they say that you can eat yogurt but in all honesty, I really don't think there is enough of what you need in it to help much. I've heard it said that you'd be better off to dip a tampon in some sugar free yogurt and use it that way. I haven't heard that lately so who knows but it makes more sense to me then eating it. I know that they sell a pretty good liquid probiotic called Dong Quai at the bodyecology site. I used it for several months. I do think she also sells a really good anti candida capsule. I try to buy what I can but yikes...this all adds up. I guess it all comes down to deciding that you want to get things that actually work and paying for them. Hope this helps you some.
