You can get it done at some dermatologists offices, the cost in my area is $100-$200 per session and you may need up to 7 sessions.

Hey everyone

I was just reading this thread and thought I'd add something too. I'm new to this forum and I have to say it was really nice to find somewhere where people were going through the same things as I am.

I suffer with PCOS and over the last couple of years I've noticed a couple of patches under my chin where dark hair was starting to grow. It's something that makes me feel uncomfortable every day. I'm constantly looking in the mirror or wondering if other people can see it.

Today I went for a patch test at my local laser hair removal clinic and I'm going to start having treatment in the next couple of weeks. I know it comes with no 100% promise, but I figure it's something I shoud at least try. The only thing that concerns me is not being able to pluck or wax the area in that time.

I've been told that I can shave it or cut it right down to skin level but i worry that people will still be able to see it. I'm already tempted to grab my tweezers and start plucking but I know it won't do any good in the long run as the hair needs to be there for the treatment to work.

I have my fingers crossed that it will, at the very least manage to decrease the amount or thickness of the hair.

I'll keep you posted on my progress though

In the meantime, I hope I get to speak to some of you soon.

xx

Hi ladies!

I also have facial hair. I am fair skinned but dark hair. In my twenties I plucked the few on my chin and neck. Shaved my upper lip. What I shaved came in thicker but hurt less than plucking. In my thirties I started shaving my chin and neck. By the end of the day I would have the 5 o'clock shadow. By the morning I had stubble. I have always had an active social life and busy career but avoided intimate relationships because of this embarassing issue. By my late thirties I became so conscience of this I started to avoid going out with friends/family in the evenings and weekends. I hated looking at myself in the mirror.

Finally last summer I took the financial plunge and had laser treatments. I had to shave my entire face because there were also quite a few stray sideburn hairs and made the decision I wanted it all gone, including what was growing on upper lip, chin and neck. The treatments are done (I had 8 full treatments and 4 'spot' treatments).

Today I notice a minuscule amount of dark (very fine) hairs in the three originating areas which I pluck if I feel its necessary. Perhaps before the end of the year I will have a few spot treatments but over all it was worth every penny and very effective. If you can possibly afford to do so, I personally recommend the laser treatments.

The laser treatments, I was told, work best for those that are fair skinned with dark hair. Those that have light (red or blond) hair would require more treatments.

Cool Electrolysis option

Saying NO to the impulse to pull out unwanted facial hair
is suppose to make permanent removal easier, as tweezing
or waxing distorts the follicle and then more treatments
are required by laser or electrolysis. I have recently been
going in every few weeks for a 15 min session of electrolysis
to remove hairs for $15 per session. The laser treatments
available are more expensive. For dark hairs either electrolysis
or laser are effective, but if a hair is course but lacking in
pigment, laser may not work, as it is the pigment in the hair
that guides the laser. I got an electrolysis license 25 years ago,
but then never did anything with it. Last year I got a thermolysis
only machine, but then had an internal hernia causing a bowel
obstruction that landed me in the hospital for emergency surgery,
and so my equipment is still in the shipping box and not set up.
The combo electrolysis machines that include the galvanic current
are more expensive, and many electrolygists use thermolysis only
anyway, so I thought I would try it out. But for now, scheduling
an appointment to have the hairs removed helps me resist the impulse
to pull them.

i'm only twenty and i started to notice hair growth on my chin and neck when i was in high school so i did the dumb thing and started to shave and pluck them. my hair grows rapidly so if i pluck i have to do it almost everyday which can be a big pain. Shaving is just a quick fix when i dont feel like plucking. It's nice to hear that other people have the same problem even younger ones like me. It seems like this last year my hair has started to grow faster than before. Recently i met a guy and i really like him but im afraid when we get close he will see the hair. i'm going to try some of these things and maybe even save up for laser treatment.

I have the same problem. I have tried electrolysis and ended up with scarring, waxing is what i normally do or I bought this kind of electric tweeser from phillips. it works pretty well but not on the little ones. I have heard good things about lasers but you have to make sure they are a good clean place and that the machine is right for your skin type do lots of research before you go, Don't skimp on price on this one make sure about quality. Good luck I think I will be doing this one too soon.

I have facial hair really bad on my upper lip and my chin. I wax once a month and then in between I tweeze and I use hair removal cream from Avon....it really works.
