Question at home waxing leaves sticky residue

I love the results of a bikkini wax however it simply is not financially realistic for me to do regularly at the salon. For the cost of one visit I have purchased wax , a....crockpot-type melter ...I don't know what's it's called off hand, the applicators and muslin strips.
The actual waxing is going O.K.. Technique seems to be a learning process. But I always end up with sticky wax in a spot or two that is impossible to remove. I have tried using the muslin to pull it off, adding additional wax to reheat it before applying muslin etc. I have tried to remove it with baby oil, alcohol, exfoliant and even corn starch. But I still have this problem.
Are there any products that will remove this? Or any technique tips to prevent it?
