Anybody have fishies? I have a betta... he's a beautiful veil tail bi-color, a dark turquoise and fades into a purple-ish blue color at the end of his fins. I named him Triton, after one of the moons of Neptune, the Roman God of the sea.

He's funny, he will follow your finger against the side of the tank, and nibble on you if you stick your hand in there. I read somewhere recently that when bettas live alone (as opposed to being the only betta in a community tank), they can easily get bored and depressed, so it was suggested to put a small mirror in the tank once in a while so they can get some stimulus. I just did that, the mirror is in there as we speak, and he couldn't care less about it. I thought this was strange, he should think it's another betta and flare up at his reflection, but he pretty much just ignores it. Is my little guy just really smart and know that it's his own reflection? Or maybe he doesn't realize that he's a Siamese fighting fish, lol.

I would love to have another fish tank. I LOVE fish. Siamese Fighters are beautiful! My mum had one in her fish tank and it bit gaping holes out of the guppies and the neon tetras. It even went for a few of the bigger fish and ripped pieces of their fins/tails off. Evil little creature but stunning. I am determined to be self employed within a year, and if I am I am going to reward myself with a huge corner fish tank. A marine one so I can have nemoes.

LOL I had a marine tank once, the saltwater fish are beautiful (and expensive), but it requires a lot of maintenance. You gotta keep an eye on the PH and water hardness, the salinity levels, ammonia levels, water temp, research which fish are compatible with each other (and how many you can have based on the size of your tank), have a good balance of fish and coral, a good filtration system, and keep on top of water changes. Make sure you read up on it before going for it, and the tank should be at least 50 gallons. My experience is that, fish require more care and maintenance than any other type of pet... people think it's easy but it's not, and you can't even hold them and pet them, they just look pretty.

Aww beta fish make me really sad because most people keep them in tiny little cups or whatever (similar to what they're SOLD in, UGH!), and the fish just kind of droop at the bottom of it. I didn't even know that this was unusual until a friend of mine got one and put it in a small tank but one that was big enough to swim around in... and it looked so NORMAL, and happy!

I friggin love fish, unfortunately haven't had the chance to keep any these past few years. I love goldfish (hardy things!) and fancy guppies. Fancy guppies are great because they look pretty, are super energetic and fun to watch, and they BREED really easily (if you want them to), producing tiny cute little super energetic bebehzsz!

LOL bebehzsz! That made me smile

I've got some fishies too.. they're OOLLLLDDDDD, like 7 or 8 years. Originally when I got them they were little feeder goldfish my parents had in their outdoor pond, we moved them indoors in a tank in the winter, and this many years later they're HUGE and became beautiful with long flowing fins... very fun to watch and super easy to take care of

They're trained kind of like yours kristalyn, they follow you when you go from one side of the tank to the other and will nom on your finger if you put it in the tank.

heh... LOL. My betta isn't really trained, just kinda does it on his own, ever since I brought him home from the pet store almost a year ago. It's funny, entertains my friends.

I've heard of the most absurd betta set-ups, from tiny jars to vase set-ups (the fish are supposed to survive off of the plant roots, which is stupid because bettas are carnivorous), and betta bowl hand-bags (as if a fish wants to go shopping with you). If any of you ever see this or know someone that has these, BOYCOTT! It's cruel and the bettas won't live very long.

Ok, rant over, lol. Time to feed my fishie... nom nom nom. <8-)°°°

Just thought I'd share... my betta picked up a funny new habit of chasing his tail like a dog. Not sure why he's been doing that but it's hilarious! Anyone else heard of a fish chasing its tail/fin? Hope nothing's wrong with him.

Might think it's another fish. Meh I wouldn't worry unless it stops eating cuz that's all it can think about.

Ohhh! I thought this post was about "fishing", as in catching fish w/ rod and reel. Which I have no ability or 'knack' for, tho not for lack of trying.

Sad to say, same goes with me trying to keep pet fish at home. Mine always seemed to sicken and die, likely 'cause I wasn't doing something right. I did have a friend who had a big saltwater tank - as K said, loads of work, but what beautiful fishes!
