I've been asked to demonstrate my survival skills at a Girl Scout and Boy Scout campout in a few weeks. I'm making char cloth today to teach them fire craft. Also have to go get steel wool and a couple of 9 volt batteries. Getting things ready for this event is the only fun in life I have right now, besides spending time with my son. I can't wait to teach them about the basics of survival. This is so great to be able to pass down my knowledge. I love it when they get excited about being able to build their own little shelter and their own fire. It gives them a new found confidence that no one can take away from them. These things I do for these kids is a labor of love for me. The leaders count on me to teach this year after year and I never get tired of it!

I used to be in Girl Guides. Hated the actual weekly meetings of reading from the girl guide book and procedural component to everything but I did enjoy the camps when we got to do the outside activities like building a fire. Just not the camp songs, or again the procedure "read the oath and make up a dance with your group" type stuff. Just the survival activities were fun. We got to go fishing on shore once I was the only one that caught a big pike. But of course no fish fry lol.

I enjoy kids- they are eager to learn new things and this is something they never forget. It's so much fun showing them that a simple 9 volt battery and steel wool will make fire, or char cloth and a tiny spark from a steel will create a fire to dry out your clothes or to cook on. I love passing this knowledge on to the next generation.

It was supposed to be this past Saturday, it got rained out. I was really looking forward to teaching these kids survival skills. I got asked to pull the big Boy Scout trailer and the canoe trailer to the next campout in June, I think next weekend or the one after. I'm one out of 3 who have a truck heavy enough to pull it. Everyone else is busy with other Scout functions. It will give me an opportunity to watch my son in a canoe for the first time. This ought to be fun to watch. It will also give me time to go fishing close to a loo- as I Need that for sure! Thinking about taking my fish fryer and some oil so I can cook the fish right there.
