I use baking soda to remove odors, which is always great.

However I also spray the fridge and wipe down regularly with a water and vanilla essence mix in a spray bottle, or leave a small dish with vanilla essence in the back of the fridge for a lovely smell every time you open the door.

baking soda really helps in removing the smell of the fridge , you can use it with water or just have a open box in your fridge every time .

If you like the smell of Coffee, you can add some grounds and it will get rid of unpleasent odors.
Whenever we moved and the fridge was off for a period of time (when it normally starts getting stinky), I would usually fill a very light (nylon) sock (a new one [lol]), with coffe grounds and leave it in during the move - it works fantastic!

My previous roomie was very careless about food and leftovers and would often spill food in the fridge and not clean it. I once Emptied the fridge and cleaned it with water, sponge and at the end left some baking soda in there. Baking soda is known to absorb odor. Also, I visited a store and picked up a fridge odour absorber. It was cheap but very effective.

    Charcoal or Coffee grounds.

    Vinegar might work...
I have also seen a lot of websites recommend Vanilla extract. It is mostly made of alcohol and smells great as well.
