You can check out the kinds of carrots you might want to try growing either online, or in the seed/veggie section of your local store or nursery. There are tons of different kinds, and the basic difference is in size, color, hardiness to certain soils, and sometimes taste.

Make sure you plant them in full sun and that you keep the soil moist (don't drown them, no standing water - just moist). If you're starting from seeds, soak the seeds about 12 hrs before you plant them.. it helps them germinate quicker.

If you want to keep harvesting carrots throughout the growing season instead of them all being ready at once, plant new seeds every 2 weeks.

I've heard carrots do well in containers too.. never tried it myself, but I know some people that have had good luck. Just need a container big enough (probably at least 12" deep) and that has good drainage!

Good luck! I'm not doing carrots this year... I'm trying my luck at growing cucumbers- never tried them before, but I think I can get them to climb up my fence in a nice sunny spot, so hopefully they do well

So here's a question, onions/carrots/potatoes, when they are old and they grow that little pointy bits, from the eyes, haha you know what I mean.

Do you cut that part off, and plant it upside down? side up? And at what point do you know they are ready? I've always thought of trying to way to confused

Cucumbers/pumpkin on the other hand I've done, they love the sun, don't care about the soil type and need water

The little pointy things are roots.. onions and potatoes can be started by planting an onion or a potatoe in the ground, the little pointies coming from the eyes will sprout and you'll start a plant. I don't think carrots are so easy.. I've always just grown them from seed.

Carrots are ready when you see the tops of them poking out of the soil line, the younger they are the juicier they are. The more mature ones have a little different taste, I'd say they're sweeter. It usually takes like 2 or 3 months for them to be ready... When I grew them, I would just "sacrifice" one by pulling it and seeing if it was ready, and if it was, then the others were too!

CAn't wait to do cucumbers! I have them growing in little pots now, its still a little to early to plant them here (they could freeze). I'm going to do birdhouse gourds too - hoping to get some lovelies that I can decorate and use for birdhouses next year!

My sister grew carrots one time.... be patient!!! She wasn't - she couldn't wait to see how much they'd grown and kept pulling them up to see how far they'd come!

There were none left by the time they would have been perfect! LOL!
