fire pit, maybe? or is it too close to the house?
This part of the forum doesn't seem to be frequented much but will give it a go anyway.
Basically we've got this unsightly square... pot.. thing... built into our front porch, right in the center. I'd say each side is about 3-4 feet. It's currently overgrown with weeds, with a slightly broken gnome fished out of it yesterday.
Just wondering what I could do with that space. I was thinking maybe using plants that can droop over the sides of it, to cover up the cement sides of the thing. And plopping some decoration in the middle, like a garden globe.
Ideas? I know nothing of plants! Also this is NZ, where summer is around the corner.

Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine.

Why not bring good luck to your homePurchase an oval shape pond, fill it with water, (which will evaporate quickly as it's summer)
lol's, and then place a tree, maybe a lemon tree, behind it so the leaves as they grow cover the shade of the pond so you can then add lillies, etc and around it, place petunas if they have them in NZ, then in front of them ground cover that spreads, and in front of those to the edge, pigs ears, they come up with bright orange or bright pink flowers, and it's massive and pretty...
Alternatively even though it's your front yard, consider making it a herb garden and add some potted colour within in it, use Miracle Grow, it is wicked and makes all plants blossom over night...

I was thinking some pretty flowers, passion flower, jasmine, lilly ect, and a nice bird bath or table, but then when I got here, I thought your idea was better so agreed with you insteadx

Woohooooo great ideas thanks!!Hmm I think there's not enough room for a tree, considering the porch around the pot thing is all wooden panels and we're renting the place besides. Maybe a mini tree of some kind? Oooooh I've always wanted a bird bath.

You could get one or two conifer trees, you can buy them when they are small, they don't grow very quickly and they are really easy to trim back down.![]()

Sounds like a plan, besides the boyfriend makes home-made ginger beer/ale and home-grown lemons would be a treat! Ooooooh I'm so excited to take on this little project, I've never done any gardening before.
