I don't know why a man feels threatened when his lady, loses weight, puts something on that she looks amazing in, his mind races and he thinks that he is not good enough, won't be good enough, she will ultimately see that and leave him for someone else...But, they do..
I'd follow BD's suggestion 100% and please don't take it to heart over the dress, I'd say you shocked the shirt out of him in the wow factor, take that as a compliment...

The only way to assure him you won't leave is to Be There.i get excited about my weight loss for many reasons. one of which is the way i see him looking at me. it is exciting to see him excited about me. i enjoy knowing he longs for me. i love knowing he wants me. how do i show him that i will not leave?
On the Dress Issue, I would keep the dress. Then I would go do some Shopping for Him . * Wink *
Something that you would only wear for him.
Something in this line or similar, whatever you are comfortable with.
Let him know that it is He, His longing looks, his Desire for you that has you changing your mind and progressing from Hating Dresses to feeling Great in them. Along with his support of you losing weight.
Let him know you want to look attractive in Dresses in Public but you only want to look Sexy in Private with him only ..
