Hey,
I can relate. I have HPV also. Strangely enough I got it in my late 30's after my divorce. After my divorce I entered dating as a nieve, trusting person who made a bad choice in a man with a questionable past. Something I have to live with. Stupid me! Live and learn....right? You know you have HPV so that's the good thing. If you didn't know.....which many women don't... then nothing is done about it and it could lead to cancer. Your physician may look closer at your cervix to see if there are any spots needing to be biopsied (which is a painless procedure done in the office you just take advil prior to). My biopsy came back positive so that meant my pap smears weren't a reliable indicator of cancer. I had a precancerous type state and had to go for cryosurgery which is a mildly uncomfortable surgery in the office. I have children and am not wanting anymore at my age so I told my physician to take as much tissue off as she could. In most women they don't do that if they're still of childbearing years and it is not necessary. HPV is not a cancer diagnosis, but it is one indicator that you may be at high risk for getting cervical cancer later in life. Let me stress that. So many women have it and don't know it because they don't always test for HPV. It is a good thing you are aware you have it. I know it's a concern when you are in relationships. It's a STD,but it's not like herpes. Your body could clear the virus in 3yrs. if the virus is new for you. It's normal to be scared, but really you will be ok. I was scared at first, but my physician was great when my biopsy came back positive. My bf was of no help though. Oh, he admitted to giving me HPV and that's around the time he left me.....when I needed the support most. When I told him my biopsy came back positive and that I had to have surgery.....well he accused me of lying. I felt cheated and alone. I couldn't tell anyone and had to go through it myself. I'm doing great now and you will too. Please don't be scared. take one day at a time and always be happy. |

HPV is a virus (STD) that causes cervical cancer. 80% of women in their life time will get it and it clears up on its own in 90%. The other 10% are at a higher risk for cancer. I was diagnosed with it last June and I had never heard of it. I researched it at the time and did not get too stressed about it. I lost my job in March so I of course had nothing else better to do than more research well i got really freaked out. My doctor told me not to do so much internet research because it will only get me stressed out. Everyones situation is different. I also suffer from anxiety. Yesterday they said it would take two to trhee weeks to get the results. I don't think I can wait that long. The anxiety is unbearable and am finding it hard to go through my daily routine.
If anyone else has anything to add on HPV please do. |

HPV is very common.
Many people have it...men and women. I got it from an ex-boyfriend. It is manageable. Just get your yearly paps. Your physician will do the rest. Be sure to talk about this with another partner. I told my husband about it before we started to sleep together....I was afraid he would not want to date me anymore. But he was fine with it. We used protection up until he proposed to me...and then just birth control. Together we decided that we would deal with it. All the symptoms I have had are irregular Paps. Nothing else. And I have had it for three years. Your right, it is different for everyone. But it is not the worse thing in the world. When I was first told I had it...I freaked out. Literally lost sleep for about a year. I researched it alot as well....then one day decided that I am not dying and that most all of my girlfriends have it...my sister has it....and as the doctors say many more have it and don't even know about it. Just be glad you are aware. Peace to you |
