Because I generally think that as people age their world becomes smaller, like a bubble of conciousness around them which is constantly shrinking, which is a problem when one can't think about anything but what is immediately around them.

No, it isn't all about hormones, IMO. Maybe somewhat. And I don't think our world is closing in on us and our mind. LOL. It's about knowing each other well and getting "too" comfortable sometimes, IMO. What is the longest relationship you have ever had in your life?
