Key point being could pass on and it only matters if you are planning on showing your animal. As far as being a family pet it has no relevance.

As Little says, it is true that a dog can be allergic or sensitive to certain types of food. My son has a lab that has to be fed a specific type of food because she has sensitive/dry skin.

I initally decided to take Ziggy in because his owner was saying how AWESOME he is...blah blah blah...but now I feel like I bought a lemon instead of an orange...I feel Taken advantage of...
Dont get me wrong...I LOVE this dog...he's awesome! He is completely MY dog...and after hearing about how his old owner treated him, I am SO glad he is with me.
I wanted a companion for my 8 year old retreiver, who is epileptic...and when I found out he wasnt fixed...we all figured "Why not make a couple bucks off of him?"...Apparantly the un-descended testicle can harm him...Im not sure how...lol. He is a great dog...a bit of a nervous habbit of chewing his tail...and when he gets super excited, he bites....

In-Need-I appreciate what you were doing...I thought it was funny. Actually...to tell you all a secret, my step dad had to have one....testicle removed because of an accident with a pitchfork when he was younger....so I guess he felt bad for the dog?!?!?!

I checked Ziggy for fleas...and none whatsoever...so what I did last night, was gave him a soothing bath in water with baking soda, the rubbed aloe gel all over him, and put calamine on the worst spots..lol.

didja know that females will ACTUALLY pick out the best male (in their eyes) for mating/reproductive purposes?? True story...I swear.

Great job sweetie! I imagine ziggy is very happy to have you as his new mummy!

I have extensive experience with dogs...

1- One testicle on an animal is NOT a health hazard... He will have a good life. It is just that you cannot take him to dog shows.

2- The scratching... Did you actually take him to a vet for tests?... Who told you it was the food?

3- Animals have feelings... All animals need time to adjust to their environment... Is your home free of fleas... Do you have other pets?

Believe it or not, animals can develop nervous ticks if they cannot adapt to their new environment... They do have feelings!!!

Do take your dog to the vet...

If he does not have fleas... he may have the larva in his underlayer of skin... Those itch like crazy for dogs... There is this excellent product, Advantage, where you put break the vile and spray the liquid on the upper neck are just below the ears.

This product not only kills fleas but all the parasites that can cause all kinds of itching... All pets should be treated during the flea season. Dogs do follow their nose and find all kinds of places where parasites will take advantage to find a new "home"...

The purer the animal is the most likely he will have "weird" health problems, simply because of "in breading". Do you have the lineage of its ancestors...

We had a beautiful tri color collie... He was bread too closely... He was fine except he had one testicle that did not fall... The owner, a professional breeder, agreed to give him to us if we had him neutered... We did... He was the best pet and gorgeous...

He died young... Because of the inbreeding, he developed all kinds of cysts all over his body... He basically died of cancer... It was heartbreaking...

Anyway... DO take him to the vet and bring his papers of the lineage if you can. It will help the vet al lot.

    Bye for now.

You got the dog to breed it but didn't know enough to be able to tell on your own that there was an undecended testical? You don't want or know how to deal with the food allergy (it's probably corn or soy) and now you don't want the dog? Do everyone a favor - find the dog a good home where it will be loved. It can't control this anymore than you can control what you are and it deserves a loving home. Forget about being a breeder. Find some thing else to do that involves the inannimate.

    wildchild...you TOTALLY misunderstood me...
We THOUGHT of breeding him...we only had him for a DAY before we realized that his one testicle was undescended, so we are going to get him fixed.
We're keeping him, because he is WAYYYYY better off with us than he was before. His first owners didnt even realize that he was all rashy...we did.
I am doing everybody a favour by keeping him, and nursing him back to health, and loving him, and walking him, and giving him a proper diet.

This dog is MINE, and he does have a loving home, right here by my side...

Sorry, saw your post stating that you now regretted having the dog and assumed that is what you meant, somehow I missed the later post amending that. In fact looking back through the thread there is a bunch of stuff I'd swear wasn't on here when I first read and responded. I appologise if I offended, I have little tollerance who people who treat dogs simply as income sources.
