i just finished reading an article about tattoos and the work place.
in short, it mentions about hiding tattoos at the workplace, maybe not getting hired for employment, and some patients being scared if a medic helps them.

so what are your views? do you thik its right or wrong to discriminate people with skin art.

personally, i feel as long as the ink is in tasteful form, who cares. some tattoos are very pretty, expressful, and almost all are meaningful.

You JWB... I saw something the other day and I just thought the tattoo just undid the whole "look"...

The partner of my hairdresser got married last week-end and when I went for my apointment at the salon, of course she had all kinds of pictures to show to her clients.

She is a beautiful girl... The wedding dress, the hairs, everything was perfect until I saw the back shot... She had this huge, in my opinion, ugly tattoo at the back of her neck... A big sort of multicoloured sun? that had at least 4 inches in diameter...

Everytime there was an angle shot, all that seemed to jump out of the picture was this out of place tattoo...

Maybe I am old fashioned but I just do not think that tattoos are "all that"...

I mean... I see young girls at school with a heart or flower on the side of their breast...
Ok... When you are young but gravity is a and I can just imagine the look of the tattoo when the breasts start sagging... Not pretty ... or when the young woman has babies and all that ... Stretched skin does havoc on a tattoo... I have seen the damage... Not pretty...

Anyway... Just my two cents worth.

    Bye for now

I think it's wrong. If you discriminate about tattoos then you may as well discriminate about things like:
changing your body image, via the gym, or being over weight
    Henna tattoos
    Fake tan
    Hair colour
    Scarring
Piercings (in places you cant see)

In a workplace I imagine the majority of your skin's covered up. Obviously if someone has a tattoo on their face for instance they could give the wrong impression...so to me it makes sense to have requirements. Like if you have a tattoo on your arm you're required to wear a garment of clothing to cover it up...I don't...something...

See I like tattoos and I'm all for people doing what they want to their own body. You only live once, if you want to be decorated then go for it! Tattooing is becoming more and more popular so I think some things have got to change

I dont believe you should discriminate against someone with tattoos, its their body...they can do what they wish with it...

But, in general...i cant stand tattoos. Especially on women. Now, call me old fashioned, but i dont particularly like piercings on women either, anywhere, including ears.

Its just a personal preference, i wont treat anyone differently if they have tattoos. It doesnt make them any different inside.

like everything else in life, i think it is a matter of degree. I have no issues with tattoos in general, and am even playing with the idea of getting one on my upper arm. Excessive ink, excessive piercings, excessive whatever, is an extreme, and extremes usually indicate that there are other issues.

a small well placed and decorative tattoo on a female can be very exciting, as can be a piercing. But 10 or 15 of them? not for me.

    Moderation is the key.

I agree with NO1 on this one moderation and taste ....I have thought of getting one from time to time, but im afraid what I want would cost more than im willing to spend.
If it wasn't for the bad times.... We wouldn't appreciate the good ones!

I think it is crazy for anybody to be prejudiced over tattoos! I don't have any but I am wanting to get one more and more as time goes on...a sunburst on my lower back. What do you think?

if it's excessive, in poor taste, shows bad judgment, or beliefs that are well out of the norm, then I think it's bad.

for example, I saw a correctional officer 6 months ago who had tattoos all over the top, sides, and back of his head. they were kinda covered by his hair, but not really. Not confidence inspiring at all and in some regards ties him more to the belief set of the inmates, than of those responsible for securing them.

Now in different cultures, such as in some in the south pacific, its a different matter. They are part of the culture, more of a norm, and reflect societal values. But I'm pretty sure that the Maori dont have belly tattoos that say "Gangland" or some such thing on them...

Hey!! Its me...I'm back and I just had to respond.
I am an OR nurse and I have 5 tattoos...none of which can be seen while I have clothes on. Three of them I got when I was younger, 25 y/o or less, the most recent 2, one is on the top of my right foot it is the Chinese symbols for faith hope love. The latest one I got about 3 months ago, it is in the center of my back, it is my bird(cocktiel) Axle that I had for 21 years and lost him 5 months ago. He always rode on my back or on my shoulder so I simply "put" him back where he belonged. It is 8" wide from side to side and 4" tall from top to bottom. It is by far my favorite!!!!
I have tattoos and some piercings, so who am I to judge someone else. I have to laugh when I hear people I work with putting someone down because of tattoos...because they have no idea that the nurse working with them...HAS 5!!!!!

    Just my opionion.

I didn't read the other replies so excuse me if this has already been said however I thing comes to mind when i read your first post JWB

    "Dress for the part"

You can't go to a construction site in a suite and tie and expect to get a job as a laborer. On the other hand you cant go to a engineering office and expect to get a job in jeans and a tie shirt.

If you want to a job in a high class environment then dress the part.

Its human nature. We want to know everything about eachother if not that we want the intimate details, and yet not many of us are willing to take the time or effort to figure out that stranger so we judge

First a person will judge you simply by the way you look. Afterall your clothing IS a direct symbol of who you are. We pay attention to things like clothing, accessories, brands, shoes... and yes tattoos are one of them. etc

Then we judge on appearance, for example your demeanor. Are you smiling and walk confidently or do you have your head down with your arms crossed by your chest or even in your pockets.

Then they judge on how articulate you are.

All This happens within a very short time.

    Hope this helps

    Live laugh and love
