Wc there's a jumper pin on the back of the Hd that tells the system what priority this HD is suppose to be in. If it's in the wrong location It won't show up.
I know this may sound stupid but are you sure they left it in?
Well my computer got wormed about a year and a half ago, something that looks like security protection but is actually a real nasty. I spent about $140 getting removed. Seems some of those just can't be entirely removed. So, about every 5 or 6 months I'd have to run a repair on the OS, it would always get stuck - a real hassle. This time, it hit hard and got worse fast. The repair got stuck and after 12 hours of fussing with it I paid the $60 and spent 4 hours on the pnone with Microsoft. They got me unstuck, but the problem was as bad and got worse. One click and I got 40 Explorer windows, then it would freeze.
There was about 50GB of stuff on the hard drive that I wanted to save and didn't have anything with the capacity. So into the computer shop. My idea was a second hard drive, move the data on to it and completely reload the OS on the original drive. While we were at it I decided to upgrade the wimpy Ram. Like many good but simple minded ideas, it rapidly expanded. The older motherboard wouldn't handle the new drive. A couple days later the computer came home with a new motherboard, 2 GB of Ram and a new 500 GB HD. The 120 GB HD was the same price as the 500 Gb on sale.
The software wouldn't load a repair. A conversation with the computer guys elicited remarks like, "Ooooo, that sounds bad, really bad." Another trip in, they are going to use some system to move my data for me so I can just reload the OS. The next day I get a call, moved the data but the old HD is badly corrupted and rapidly disintegrating (so to speak) it shouldn't be left in the computer. Another 500 GB HD (still on sale).
The OS is reloaded and all the software reinstalled and we are quite speedy but I can't find the other drive with the data on it! It's not on "My Computer", nothing on a search, looked for specific files - nothing. Any ideas?
Any computer sagas to share?
I'll be calling them in the AM but sure am tired of this.

WC i should have also said it's also very possible they may have unplugged it if they had it out and did not plug it back, There is a ribbon that goes to it and a power cable, both of which have to be plugged in.
Just talked to them and have to bring it back in yet again. THey said something about bios having checked our fine. No idea what that is but they said the drive could be loose. I'm wearing out the pavement between the shop and home. LOL
This too shall pass.
Ok, load up control panel, and open a folder called 'administritive programs'. Then open Computer management. There will be a section for 'logical drives', open that up, and you should see all the HDDs in your computer. It probably isn't partitioned/formatted which is why you cant see it. Right click on the new drive, click format, make it NTFS then click OK.
Sounds like you've been f'ed around. All of the problems you've had sound rather easy for someone who knows what they're doing.
Anon, i think she wants to try and get her Files off of it first if she formats that will erase it, theoretically, I realize there are ways to retrieve it but she couldn't.
I was going to say something about the bios WC but I knew you wouldn't understand that part by what we've talked about in the past, Good Luck!![]()
Thanks Anon but its in the shop now. In Need is right, I'd really have to be talked through it, step by step. I'm more a sewing machine or hammer drill type, than computers. If you told me to get under the hood of my car and remove the radiator, I can do it but computer is another story. Maybe I should start learning - that would be a challenge.
Anyway,(digressing is one of my hobbies) took it in, they fired it up and they could find the 2nd HD in the bios but the software isn't recognizing it. Supposedly all my data is on there, including some court docs I need - like last week. They did they back up for me, moving the data to this slaved HD and they do hold back up in their system for 2 weeks, so that is retreviable. This has been a mess.
It might mess up my karmic journey but I'd love 5 mins with the tools of my choice and the ***hole who created the Dr AntiSpy worm, that's what got all this started a year and a half ago and the residual degraded my original HD.
The plot thickens, it's getting rather gooey. They called, the drive that was IDd as the C drive was the one they'd stored my data on, so when I formated it and loaded the software...guess what? They had originally said that my data was saved on their system for two weeks - not. They had done a direct transfer because both the drives (the corrupted one and one of the new) were in the computer, no need to move it to an outside drive first. I'd left the original drive with them to recycle, they are trying to locate it in the bin (they've been too busy to wipe them lately).
I was a bit peeved, and was pretty firm about it but did watch my language and tonality. It was clearly spelled out what was to go where and they didn't do it! This too shall pass
Stick to your Guns Dear, this Peeves me! They should have known better! uugggghhhh!!!!!
Please keep us informed, altho I don't know what I can do from here, but I will certainly try!!!!![]()
These guys are muppets. How much money in total have they charged you? (for what would take me an hour).
And if you leave them HDDs to dispose of they don't wipe them?! That is outrageous.
