Traveling Alone!

Hey guys. I know there's a similar thread here called "International Travel," but this topic is a little different and I didn't want to hijack the other one!

Has anyone ever traveled to a country alone, and how was that experience?

I never have, but fortunately or unfortunately I might have to this winter vacation since none of my friends have the same time off as me.

I'm planning a tentative trip to Australia and New Zealand, for about a week each. I hear that traveling alone can be great because you can meet a lot of people that way (you'd have no choice but to do that, I guess!), but it can also get lonely.

Thoughts??

Me neither....hence look at my post in the other thread. Never been to another country by myself except I know alot of people who have and they told me they had a great time. I feel a little scared to go to Japan by myself but I'm gonna do it. I mean why not??? Although I know how you feel....I wish I can meet someone soon who can go with me.
My friend Laraine flies everywhere by herself...I always wonder how she does it but figure just do it.

Yeah I saw that post of yours, which inspired me to make mine actually... I'm sure you'll have a great time in Japan. I was there for only 4 days and went with some of my best friends, but almost the entire time I wished that I was alone!!

I might check out that couch-surfing thing, too... if I'm brave enough.

I travel alone a lot (I'm male so the experience may be different). New Zealand is fantastic - you will have a great time! I haven't been to Austrailia so can't comment but people I've talked to who have gone had a good time.

Travel alone can be very lonely - but if you are good at talking to strangers it can also be a lot of fun. Being from somewhere else immediatly makes you and them interesting.
