HAHA - me too, I'm kind of shallow when it comes to music. I could care less about the words as long as the music is good and gives me something to boogie to. I have a ton of music, I'll listen to pretty much anything if it agrees with my mood.
I'm almost the opposite and very rarely care about lyrics. They can be singing about fluffy pink bunnies and I won't care if the music is good.
For me it's all about the energy. Sometimes I want something sweet and melodic, sometimes something slow but deliberate, and sometime something wild and crazy.

Wow... That's so not me. At least Ky and I relate, lol. My mom is like the two of you. She just likes a good beat. Ahh well... I can't deny that there have been songs with (to me) meaningless lyrics that I really just loved and danced too. For example: Soulja Boy - Turn My Swag On. I LOVE THAT SONG. Also, Kiss Me Thru The Phone by him as well. That had a little more to it but really... Just lovey crush stuff.
"All the beats and melodies keep realities at bay but what happens when the records done and starts to fade away? Alone within myself again, I try to veil away my pain. The dirty grey surrounding me 'round..... And now I hear no sound."
Some of the stuff I like doesn't even have lyrics. Classical music and a lot of jazz. But even with rock and heavy metal some of my favorite tracks are instrumental, things like Soul Sacrifice from Santana, Kaiowas from Sepultura, and Orion and To Live Is To Die (minimal lyrics near the end) from Metallica.
In fact I think some songs would be better if it weren't for the singing. But there are also songs where the melody and rhythm go very well with the rest of the music and acts as an additional instrument. A lot of Pink Floyd stuff is like that. And if the lyrics do make sense and they appeal to me then I'm happy.
But it's not that important to me. It's mainly about the energy and I'm a huge sucker for good drumming and guitar work.
To each their own.
Pink Floyd though, no argument. Have you ever seen the Australian Pink Floyd show? OMG... Talk about amazing. I went to their concert a few years back. I'd love to go again. That's probably, no... That is the best concert I've ever been to.
Again, I have no argument when it comes to Classical music. How could I even begin to argue with that? It's amazing. Heck, I can't even argue with Santana. You've got some pretty good taste.

It's just a difference in how we connect to music. Like Lana said sometimes I feel a bit superficial that I usually don't have an emotional link to the lyrics. Some people that do have that link describe a good musical experience as an emotional journey, where they are moved between sadness and happiness, excitement and melancholy.
With my approach I don't get to experience different emotions. It's always about reaching that happy place. But in that sense good music is in some ways like sex, where you wan to reach a happy emotional state but you have different ways of going about it: slow, fast, simple, complex. I guess you could describe mine more of a journey of energy than emotion.
Ooh, something that makes me happy is that we can have interesting discussions like this here.![]()
Is this what song are you listening to?
OR is it "what are you thinking about?"
Or as the above states, Tex is thinking Sex.Sometimes I want something sweet and melodic,(sexy) sometimes something slow but deliberate,(sensual) and sometime something wild and crazy. (horney)
Do we not realise that in order to find a soul
It doesn't happen over night
if truth were to be told.
Like everything in life that's hard to achieve
you must believe!
Do you relate everything to sex? With my approach I don't get to experience different emotions. It's always about reaching that happy place. I guess you could describe mine more of a journey of energy than emotion.I'm just kidding. That was a really great way to put it. My reasoning for why/the way I connect to music is because of everything I have been through in my life. I typically don't listen to a lot of "happy" music. I want something that will bring me the emotion of sadness through relation although, that does make me happy to find something so deep, true and meaningful to me.
For example, right now I am listening to Keith Urban - Til Summer Comes Around. The lyrics aren't something that I relate to but the melody brings up great emotion for me. It reminds me of my brother and him and I don't have a close relationship but I love him to death. So the emotional connection for me is that I miss my brother, I wish we were close but we're not so I feel close through listening to the kind of melodies that he himself plays and likes.

I'm big on lyrics too, anything you hear can program you. Listen to negative words whether you agree with them or not at some level they enter your mind and are processed. I try to listen to positive music and it does make me happier.
We can only learn to love by loving. - Iris Mudoch, British writer
Very true... Sometimes I have to be careful about what I listen to. It does burn into my head certain thoughts.
