Ok so this morning I get this message (6:30am to be exact) telling me that Govenor Corzine is legalizing Medicinal MaryJane in New Jersey....
So does that mean that everyone is going to be walking around high with perscriptions? Does anyone live in an area where it is legal? Don't get me wrong I don't judge but i'm interested in everyone's views to the legalization of it?

The interesting thing to me about state legalization is that it's still illegal federally. I mean, I don't see the DEA making a point to crack down on a single person here and there with a prescription, but I think I'd still be paranoid... They should just make a national decision once and for all. Then they could actually set up some guidelines and regulations and not tiptoe around the issue...

I saw a show on showtime once that brought up some major points I hadn't thought about. I think it was called in pot we trust. I agree that they just need to make a decision about it once and for all. I believe that it would bring more revenue which is why the President has considered it. I have my own personal beliefs regarding the subject however

It will still be a states rights issue no matter how any federal legislation is written.

There will be a point in time where medical marijuana will become a pharmaceutical product. Once technology (are profit margins) make it a viable drug is when we will see a national debate.

Abuse of any drug can happen. Why should this be any different?

Not living there, but WC could tell you more about it. I am just a voyeur watching as this issue unfolds and unravels the security that dwellers in these areas have built within themselves as a community.

Morally, to me it is frustrating. But hey, people are doing it anyway. And in this financial turmoil that our goevernment is having, why not create an avenue to generate more $ - on of which is medical dope, another is prostitution. (I am squirming while typing this, honestly).

If these are legalized, then, the government can actually get more from tax revenues, cut back on some expenses incurred from pursuing the (then) illegal drug dealers. I am just hoping that before they DO legalize this, that they have a policy in place as to how much is allowable, what is going to happen to people who would go beyong the limit - both vendor and customer, etc....

LOL My state legalized it in the past year. It's a riot. We've got dispensaries popping up everywhere. There is a group of doctors who will pretty much write anyone a script for it. It advertised. Yep, ads for pot. I'd far rather have people using pot than all these pain pills and antidepressants and such. My daughter tells me that pretty much everyone she knows has a script for it.
I think it's about time we got real with this, given a choice between being around someone who's been toking and someone who's been drinking, I'll take the weed. Not that I want either on the highway.

I'm not a user and won't be. But compared to alcohol, the whole thing has jsut been silly for years.

I completely agree. I can't fathom why alchohol which is much more dangerous than pot in my eyes, can be legal, but pot isn't. And I believe most of the prescription drugs people take regularly are more dangerous than pot. I was a pot head in high school, and let me tell you, prozac jacked me up a lot worse. Pot has a lot of health benefits as well. Mabye the government is finally starting to make somewhat intelligent decisions.

Living in the same state as WC,I agree,it has become a problem. They advertise it on TV now!! You can get a prescription from a certain group of doctors who hand them out like candy.

So many people use medical Marijuana nowadays around here.Though as WC said,i'de much rather that than people poppin dozens of pain pills a week.

Yes, but it's just silly to have it be such a big issue... People know the effects. Just regulate, help the GNP, and move on. It's like a long extended alcohol prohibition. And I honestly think the revenue could be beneficial to helping out with Healthcare and Education in this country...

    I agree.

IMO, legalize and tax the crp out of it. The revenue could easily be used to help with other initiatives in this country.

I've had more experience with alcoholics than any person should have to have in a life time. I, myself, have smoked more than my fair share of pot when I was younger. My behavior was far better than that of the alcoholics that I've come across.
