Oh this should be good.![]()
I thought this might be a fun topic.
A few weeks ago, I was out at my Gran's. We were going through a lot of boxed up stuff, kind of clearing things out.
I picked up a box with a bunch of books in it and found these two pretty interesting.
The Executive Secretary's Desk Manual - Published in 1968
The Secretary's Workshop - Published 1971
and
several issues of SW Trends & Topics publication from the 60's and 70's.
I'm having a good time reading through these because they just seem to be from such a different world. lol
It's amazing how far, we as women, have come and how much further we can go in the future.
I'll be sharing their 'tips' on how they suggest women act and handle situations back then.May make for some good discussion.

LOL I've got some I can throw in from farther back too.
I was in school in the early 70s, they made girls take home ec and typing class.
If you really wanted make yourself employable after typing class you could learn to take dictation and write shorthand.
Another bit to think about, my grandmother came of age in the 1920s.

HAHA - shorthand, lol... We had that in HS.
I wish I could scan all these pages and just post them, they are hilarious and full of tons of 'useful' information. Everything is so polite and PC.

Oh and we cannot forget this. This is always such a good topic of conversation. I'm sure everybody has seen it.

Well thank goodness we are out of THAT place. But truth is, this is part of what I was raised with. When I told my mother that my first husband was having an affair her response was that this is just how men are and you have to be patient and understanding.
Really this should be titled, How to be a Doormat.

lol - that whole thing makes me laugh... "Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice."
UGH - WC, not sure what I would have said if my mom told me something like that. Frustrating! But, that is obviously what they lived by back then.
