I had a friend that did the same as Lanabear's BIL, I think she spent $1200 total for the whole thing. it is COMPLETELY do-able, you just have to be smart about what you spend your money on, keep track of your expenses, and don't get carried away - so many wedding vendors try to take advantage of future brides, putting stars in their eyes and telling all kinds of tall stories about what is required to have a real wedding (and hugely inflating the prices of those "essentials" they tell you are a must).

Your wedding will be wonderful because it will be yours - the $ signs attached to the event mean nothing, it is about the symbolism of your unity with your husband. And for all the stupid, expensive frills that many brides pay too much to have, there is hardly a second glance or rememberance of them by the guests who are there to honor the wedded couple.

Just wanted to say Congrats as well and I know many people who have gotten married then had a wedding a few months later to celebrate with everyone. Just be sure that you actually go through with it because I also know some people who planned to do that and then just never did and I think they really regret it a bit.

    Best of luck to you

I agree with LB... You can find a nice, simple wedding dress for $100 or less. Have your groom wear a nice tie and suit (if he already owns one). Have some friends offer to help out with small hor d'oerves like small sandwiches, a veggie tray, nuts, very inexpensive. Buy a single bottle of champagne to toast with. And keep it small Invite only close friends and family. Dont' waste money on expensive invitations, a super frilly cake or alcohol or the masses. I would, however, try to find some people you trust to take photos. If you have a friend with a nice camera or maybe even a college student at a local university that might be trained but not a professional that might do it for you cheaper. You can get the memory card and then develop your pictures if you'd like when you have more money or just save to a computer and email to everyone

I've been to 2 outdoor "picnic" weddings. No one needed to dress up, except the groom wore a suit, and the bride a nice (but not fancy) dress. Sandwiches, finger food, soft drinks - all were great. Kids playing in the grass. The informal atmosphere makes it great. No attempt to show off, or compete with other weddings. In my opinion far more fun than a formal stuffy affair.
