Hi all here on womens health.

Im looking for ideas for gifts. whats the best present you have every recieved or ever given .
Whats the most memorable gift you have recieverd or if you could choose your present what would you ask for. When it comes to buying presents , i get lost for ideas. i know its the thought that counts but when you want to mark an occasion what gifts do you give or would like to recieve. I like gifts to be practical but need new thinking on that .

Looking for ideas for all occasions .....Birthday gift, anniversaries gifts etc.

    All suggestions welcome

One Christmas my two sisters and I ( all adults living independant of our mother) got to gather and surprised our mother. It was I think the ONLY time we ever managed to surprise her. She had ridden horses belonging to my eldest sister and one of mine but we are all tall (middle sister is the shortest at 5'8") and the horses were all 16-18 hands. We scoured the county and came up with a five year old pony which was 12 hands. (a SHORT horse). We put saddle and a big red bow on him (she named him Herman Horse) and Eldest sister delievered him Christmas morning in her horse trailor. My mother was incapable of coherant speech she just kept clinging to his neck say "mine...mine.." My mother rode him both on the open range and in parades until she died some 9 years later. Herman still lives at my sister's place in permanent "retirement". ( OH I forgot to mention mom was only 4'6"). My mother loved that pony and even made provision for him in her will. It was the best gift we ever gave.

    - My last birthday, when my fiance tried to prepare a "surprise" dinner (but I figured it out, as he tried too much to keep it a surprise). A very nice, quiet restaurant with good food. Best gift I've received by a boyfriend.

    - Another great birthday gift I received was spending a whole day out with my mother, walking, shopping, laughing. Really memorable.

There are good gifts that depend on the other's interests, like gadgets, books or things the other may really want but cannot easily find, or other 'classic' gifts like jewelry, an expensive watch, clothes and so on. I'm bad at buying gifts as I also want them to be practical, but the problem with practical is that they aren't always as memorable as we'd like them to be.

I think that buying a glass Santa Claus to a friend has been more memorable to her than buying her a writing set for her desk. Every Xmas I get a text from her about putting the Santa under the tree, but I've never got one about the writing set she has on her desk!

But whatever the gift, it's the gesture that matters the most in every case.

A number of years ago my wife and I were doing foster care. We were taking care of a 10 year old girl that we fell in love with as soon as we saw her. A couple of days of days after she arrived in our home she drew a picture with a crayon on a plain piece of paper. Under the picture she wrote "I love you". We adopted her later that year, more than 13 years ago. That is my most treasured gift.

Thanks to every who replied, it really is the tough of the present that counts.
It’s the trick of turning a gift into sentimental value, be it an occasion/event or an object.
