    How many of you believe in psychic powers, such as, clairvoyance, mediums, astral projection, divination, psychometry ect. Also Im curious as to whether any of you have had first hand experience with any of these, particularly clairvoyence. What did you find, were there elements of truth in what the clairvoyent predicted/saw? Could you explain the things they said as coincidence, or was it much, much more than that?

    I believe that certain people have a higher level of consciousness and perhaps the ability to perceive phenomena others cannot. I do not believe in coincidence but I'm still not exactly sure as to whether such people have the ability to 'see' what's going to happen or if they actually cause what's going to happen with their thoughts. I don't believe in accidents either, I feel like if something is going to happen then it's going to happen anyway. When we look back and think "I could have done this differently", well, if we could go back, being the ones we were at the same moment in time, then we would make the exact same thing at the exact same time. Just because we know what we've already done doesn't mean that we could have prevented it in any way.

    As for mediums, clairvoyance etc. I really don't know. It wouldn't surprise me if the location and time of our birth affected our personalities/lives, or if there are people with such special abilities. I would find it very difficult to trust a person who claims he has such abilities but I can't really cancel out the possibility of such people being out there.

    Sorry, I don't believe. I think that if people had these powers they could use them to be fantastically rich. Also, no scientific test has every shown anything.

    Actually, scientists never believed that people had "Auras" until they developed an instrument that can now see the Electro-Magnetic Field that everyone has around them (The Aura). As a Spiritualist, I believe, and have witnessed, people with powers of clairvoyance. I also have had several personal sittings with Mediums. I learnt a lot about this subject and believed a lot, but not all. When you meet a medium you've never seen before and they can tell you the (shortened) name of your grandfather then you believe something. All I know now is that there is a lot we don't know and the best thing is to keep an open mind.Advice - If you ever dabble in any kind of psychic phenomenon then do it for the right reasons as motive is paramount. Go into it with love and kindness and you will get this returned to you. Also, If you are interested in contacting the beyond, then sit in a proper circle in a Spiritualist Church and send out loving messages but never dabble in things like Ouija Boards without proper supervision.

    believe in physics? In the past, I did not. Or maybe had just not explored the question much. In the few years have come to realize there is a world not seen unless we let ourselves be aware of it. Like Stressed, I definately feel some people are naturally more aware and in tune than others. Guess I'd say I'm in the 'limited natural awareness' group. But I've seen and felt it in others and absolutely believe the power exists. I think of it kinda like electricity. Can't taste, smell or see electric power in a wire. But that doesn't mean it isn't there. To stretch the metaphor a little more, like TH said - shouldn't dabble with either one if you don't know what your about.

    I myself..... Believe in Clairvoyance .

    When I was young, I had several occurances that proved to me and a few others that I had an ability to forsee the future.

    My " Visions" were almost always in Dream Form. I would dream something would happen and within a month it usually did. Now my dreams were more of a warning and 90 % of the time included my saftey. These included a car wreck and a home fire and an encounter with a rattlsnake...

    #1 The Rattlesnake... ( In my Dream )

    I was 13 and Dreamt I was riding my Gelding "Cinnabar" in my neighbors garden and he was startled by a rattler, he reared up , threw me, and I landed within 3 feet of a Rattler. The Rattler struck at my foot. The " pain" from the bite is what woke me up.

    **** I told my Neighbor about this the next day and she laughed at my story....mainly because her Garden was way too small to ride a horse in ****

    In Reality... ( or the Future of the Premonition )

    After telling my neighbor,Dorothy, whom I was helping tend her Garden. She still believed in me to help her. Silly Child that I was ,

    2 days later we were carrying baskets of Vegetables back to her house and we were chit chatting and walking down her dirt trail and I got this Strange feeling , a chill or tingle, so to speak. (We were walking towards the sun on a brown dirt trail and the trees shaded some of the trail). We weren't paying attention, just walking and talking. And when I got that " feeling " I stopped . Dorothy took a few more steps and since I had stopped she also stopped.

    I lowered my Basket/ Bushel.. And about 4 foot from us, laying on the trail was a stretched out 3 plus foot Rattler. It matched the colors of the trail and shaded area... All stretched out and not in any striking position. Just laying there basking up the sun. If we had continued just walking and talking we would have Startled it or even Stepped on it and possibly been bitten..

    We cautiously stepped back and set the baskets down, walked back to the garden, grabbed a hoe and went back down the trail and were going to kill it with the hoe. When we got back to the snake, it was still there, basking in the sun and instead of chopping it's head off with the hoe, we prodded it and it " woke up" and got in the Defensive Coiled position.

    She took the hoe and lifted the coiled rattler on it and threw it as far off of the trail into the woods as we could. Went back to the garden, got the baskets and went home to her house and did the "veggie cleaning and canning ".

    From that day on..

    We and the other neighbors always took a shovel or hoe or shotgun, with us on that trail or any of their trails on their own property.

    ***

    Note ***

    About 4 weeks later... One of the neighbors horse was bitten by a Rattler on that trail.

    The rider was thrown , but safe. Horse was put down because of the bite. Snake was found dead from the beating of the horses hooves and the weight of it falling on it..

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    #( 2) The Car wreck was 2 years later. Similar but just as "predictive" in my Dream or Warning of Danger.
    More than willing to tell it if others are interested. But for Now.......
    Yes I Believe...
    I believe in psychic events. Proof- none. But I like to believe that god granted some ndividuals gifts to guide themselves and others to safety. Stories of specific events can be "picked apart" or disbelieved ot believed. How does it make your life. If belief makes your life more colorful and fun....what harm is there? Making your important life decisions based on the "daily news Horiscope" is probably a poor idea. As for the "gifts' being used to make someone "rich and famous'- if it had would you admit it?
    I do believe in psychics, but I also think there are a lot of scammers out there, making it difficult to find those truly gifted people. One of my father's elderly friends had an incredible ability to tell people's futures, but he neither announced it nor took money for doing it. He died over a decade ago and I haven't come across anyone since. Mind you, I haven't really looked.
    Its interesting to see what other people beleive. I agree, that if their are people out there who are genuine, its the scammers that ruin it for them. They tell someone they are a clairvoyent for example, and get laughed at. I personally do think that there are people out there who are more in touch with their surroundings than anyone would beleive. Its a very touchy subject for some, just like religion, there are always going to be people who snort at the prospect.
    I havent had any personal experience, but know someone who has, I read the notes the clairvoyent wrote down, and I can tell you that ALOT of what she predicted has become reality. She stated that there would be two new souls (babies), and up until a few days ago, there was only one that we knew of, we have now found out that there is another baby on the way. The only thing I can think of her saying that hasnt yet come true, is me and my partner getting married, but she was unsure of this anyway. Somehow, she knew that my partner had leg surgery when he was younger, and stated that his 'nanny dragon' was there watching over him. How could she have know these things if there isnt an element of truth behind it? She even told her that her mum was showing her a bottle of whiskey, and laughing, she instantly knew that the clairvoyent was talking about a private joke her and her mum shared. Scary stuff
    I personally do not believe in the slightest bit, but I entirely believe in coincidence. To me everything can be tied back to science, and if there is no fMRI or other brain scans to prove that there is some serious alteration in cognition leading to some sort of non-coincidental activity then I will see no possibility of it being possible. But events that can be tied back to simple statistics like guess what a car accident is going to happen everyday so saying one is going to happen does not mean you are psychic.
    In one of my psychology courses the prof got asked a question about if people may have the ability to see into the future and stuff, he said well maybe then went on for the rest of the lecture talking about how many can be debunked especially the 'fortune tellers' and the psychics that can see dead people telling stories. He said look at your ring finger right now, the second you see that you can come up with several "visions of their life" based solely on it being there, a tan line from it, or simple scarring from an edge of the ring prodding at your skin all day. The evidence can be there so you do not even need to give and information ahead of time. Things like "oh I see a special love in or coming into in your life"...well no s sherlock I am wearing a wedding ring. Then they may ask if there is a child named Jordan or something just to see if they acknowledge that a child is present, if they say no then they can say well I see one coming (if the person is expecting they could believe some higher force granted their wish and only this psychic knows it). Feed off of that now, the husband's parents may have died so say something common like "I can feel some sort of pain, like an internal pain that is happening right now...is someone sick?". And again the feeding is easy as pie because if that parent is not sick then they can say well is someone close to them sick and suddenly tears start pouring because "my Uncle was just diagnosed with cancer". No real visions just general common sense because someone is going to be sick in the family.
    The prof also said it is quite simple for me to use my psychology degree right now and say I have tapped into a high sense of self to discover the truth of the soul by asking questions, he said people would believe that and if he said tomorrow there is going to be a car accident on the west end the next day someone can come in and low and behold because the city is packed there was an accident on the west end, and of course there is always going to be on person in a group that thinks there is some magical forces at work. He said it can be quite simple to just give people what they want to hear and it is unfortunate when it is so easily taken advantage of. The whole lecture was spent on how people are so easily manipulated for money or for simple giggles, he did not intend for the class to feel offended or have it in a way that makes everything seem like a scam he just wanted to let people know how it can so easily be done.
    There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.
