Technically you do not need a special machine to eat more healthy. I have a George Forman grill, its a useless piece of junk lol and makes your food taste incredibly plain as well. You can prepare the same meals as the machine can simply by doing small things. Replace cooking spray with a small amount of extra virgin olive oil, do not deep fry anything, bake instead of fry, do not use margarine, use lean meats, and drain the fat from the pan before adding anything else to it.

But fried tastes soo much better than baked Im having huge doubts about the actifry after reading the comments on Amazon. Apparently LOTS of them blow up and burst into flames between 6 months and a year after purchasing. My deep fat fryer is safer than that! Scary stuff. Would I rather eat unhealthy chips, or inhale a lungful of black smoke and watch my dinner burn to a crisp??... Hmmm..

I totally agree. But that is why spices are available. They turn a dry bland boring baked chicken breast into a dry boring baked chicken breast with a hint of garlic. My personal preference is the bbq over everything else.

I think my favorite home cooked dinner in the world is seasoned, shallow pan fried 500g rump steaks and deep fried chips with minted peas.. mouth waters.. BBQ sausages are SO tasty!

But once you are away from the fried junk, it won't taste better. I can't remember the last time I ate anything fried and just thinking about it makes me get sick to my stomach. Frying is the lazy person's cooking, lol, no offense, just my opinion... But take pride in what you are making, there are so many good recipes out there that you don't have to fry. And if you are in a bid to eat healthier, frying anything is not the way to do it.

It takes time and patience, explore recipes and spices, but once you leave the frying out of your life, like I said, you won't even look back!

I don't fry everything, in fact its mainly just chips and chicken/beef. I make cheese potato pie and casseroles Ect. Its just I couldn't imagine eating baked chips, they are awful!! I am a little lazy lol Why wait for 40 mins when the fryer takes 15? BTW I was reading your recipes yesterday, most of them sound delicious!!!!!

You can still fry things...in a pan with a tiny bit of olive oil. The frying that is the absolute worst to do is deep frying in the actual machine or putting 2 inches of oil in a cast iron pan and frying stuff....that is bad, really bad. But stir frying = good. Searing some meat in a pan then putting it in the oven to bake is also a much better alternative.

HAHA - yeah, I know there are definitely some foods better off fried than baked, but I just have to stay away because it just doesn't sound good anymore and my insides cannot take grease like that anymore. The additional time baking takes is a PIA, but I gained a lot of wait when I first moved out on my own because of my cooking habits and lack of activity and that weight was definitely harder to get off than it was to put on and that's a place I never ever want to be again.

I do what I call a healthy fry and it obviously won't work for everything, but I lightly spray the bottom of the baking sheet with olive oil, then I'll put the food on it, then lightly spray the top of the food with olive oil, then bake for a few and then I'll broil for a few if I want things extra crispy... But like I said, it doesn't work for everything.

I use vegetable oil/sunflower oil in the deep fat fryer but for everything else I use olive oil. I only use about half a cm of oil in a frying pan to fry steak/meat/chicken. I would use olive oil in the deep fat fryer but it would cost a BOMB to fill it up to 2litres!!
