My female cat is pregnant. I put off getting her fixed because (stupid me) I thought she was too young to get pregnant. And my male cat is fixed. (guess she found a tom) Well she's about eight months old now and she a couple days away from kittens. I have no clue what to do! I looked around online and really couldn't find much info.

Is my male cat and small dog any danger to the kittens?

We have been keeping her locked in the spare bathroom at night so she won't have the kittens somewhere we can't find her. But is that safe?

How long before I can touch the kittens?

She really wants to go outside but I haven't let her and she's getting restless.

How long before the littens should be eating solid food.

When should I risk taking the kittens to there first vet visit?

And OMG what am I going to do with a litter of kittens? lol

Best would be to find a friend whose cat has had kittens, or ask your vet for advice. I think you just need to provide the mother cat with a comfortable secluded place where she will feel secure (A box with towels in the corner of a quiet room).

When I was a kid our cat had kittens and neither of our large dogs were a problem - but I don't know if that is universally true. I know some male cats will attack kittens, but don't have any idea how common it is.

You might also see if one of the vet's assistants would be willing to stop by and make sure everything is OK. Most of the people who work in vets offices really care about animals and will provide good advice.

If you are stuck for advice, PM me. I know someone who is very familiar with animals - will just need to figure out how to communicate the information anonymously.

I just found a link (can't post it directly here but...)
paw-rescue(dot)org/CATS/kitten_care.html (add a www at the front).
    and
wikihow(dot)com/Take-Care-of-Kittens (add a www at the front).

Hope the mods will let these links pass for the sake of the kittens (please).
