We have, in this country , been celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the R.A.F's victory over the Luftwaffe (German Airforce). This battle in 1940 was pivotal in deciding the outcome of the second world war. On the 15th September 1940, German planes came over the channel to attack this country in what was a deciding day. Field Marshall Goering thought the R.A.F was a spent force. The R.A.F was ready for them and swooped down on them to defeat them. If we had lost that day, the whole world now would be a different place altogether. It may have been impossible to dislodge Nazi Germany from these shores by other powers later. Our heartfelt thanks to all those brave flyers from this country and their flyer allies from other countries such as Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Czechoslavakia, Poland, U.S.A, South Africa and the others. Godbless them all as well as those brave German pilots who did not want to be here but paid the ultimate price.
Thank you for the reminder of the sacrifices that are and have been made all over the world by brave and caring men and women to preserve our freedoms!
We can only learn to love by loving. - Iris Mudoch, British writer
