    Default Question for cat owners

My cat cracks me up. I adopted him as a kitten from the Humane Society four years ago, and he's been quirky and downright goofy the entire time I've owned him (up to and including "stealing" a couple of MY stuffed animals). However, i'm curious about one particular behavior of his, and was wondering if anyone else had a cat that did this:

He likes putting toys in his water dish and/or the toilet. It doesn't bother me - in fact, I think it's hysterical, and he looks so offended when I remove said toy from the toilet bowl. In the case of the toilet, he'll also sometimes push part of the shower curtain in there for good measure.

I'm curious as to why he does this. It's funny as , but I'm really interested to know what the behavior actually means. Is this a "safe place" for his toys...and possibly the shower curtain? Is he "drowning" his prey? What IS my quirky cat actually trying to do?

He is trying to give his toys a drink I wish my cat would do things like that!

my cat does this too, constantly... I find his toys in the food dish, the water dish, on my PILLOW (eck)

I always thought it was because they were just carrying it around and put it down when they had to eat or drink, forgetting to get it again. (like when we leave glasses or pens or whatever lying around)

I've also heard it has something to do with territory - the cats are leaving their toys in "their safe space" for when they want to get it again - as you have mentioned.

    Either way - it's cute!

My cat refuses to drink from any type of water dish... he wants to drink from the toilet, he'll meow and push his head into you until you open the lid or he'll push it open himself if he's alone. I've also seen him flush the toilet and play in the water as it goes around. He will flip his dish over and splash in the water.

Ha! Sungoddess, that is hysterical! Very intelligent cat, I must say.

Mine will sometimes drink from the toilet, but what he really loves is drinking from the sink. Every morning when I'm getting ready for work, he stands on the sink and stares at me until I read his mind and turn the faucet on a little.

Occassionally I'll also find a toy in the bathtub drain in the morning. And if I leave a dish out on the counter he tries to bury it by unrolling ALL the paper towels on the counter and assembling them over said dish.

Cats - ya gotta love 'em.

They might also be facinated with how it floats. My cat goes insane of any glass that has ice in it. He will diliberately tip it over to watch the water and ice spill out.

I actually have a cat that I raised since a kitten, he was pretty tiny. We found him in a back ally. I think too small to leave mama, but we took good care of him. Well, he started to suckle on my blanket that I had on my bed until it was almost putting a hole in it. He LOVED that blanket. Well.... 3 years later a grown tom cat, still sucks on that same blanket. He is seriously in HEAVEN when I bring that blanket out. Starts drooling, he purrs so loud and is super affectionate. I think it's so funny. I am the only one who is attached to though out of 4 people I think because I always curled up with that blanket, so maybe he thinks Im his mom. LOL

Isn't it crazy how attached they get to certain things... my cat pulled the string from the hood of a jacket when he was a kitten and has managed to carry it to 3 different places we've lived since we got him. He'll hind it and drag it to you when he is ready to play then take it and sit on it when he is done playing lol! he cracks me up, my black and tan striped Jaxson
