Because of the public perception of it, there is nothing wrong with doing that..
why are some people so embarrassed ?

I breastfed both my children in public and never had a problem with it.
We can only learn to love by loving. - Iris Mudoch, British writer
Personally I don't like it , but I'd never deny anyone the right.
Dead animals don't equal fashion it equals cruelty
I don't have a problem with it. Especially if her baby is in one of their fussy moods and just wants some milk. No noise from baby which makes everyone happy. What I do not like is the mothers that get all goochy goo saying they need to feed little young one and smother with love around everyone else while the baby is already latched on and feeding. No one needs to hear about how your darling angel loves your milk or how you are squishing their face without fully covering up. Those types of mothers I try not to be around. Most of the time they are discrete and just let baby do their own thing. Totally alright with that.
There are those who believe that dictionaries should not merely reflect the times but also protect English from the mindless assaults of the trendy.
If I'm ever lucky enough to have a baby and they let me breast feed; I wouldn't hesitate to breast feed in public.
Zen is more of an attitude than a belief.
Absolutely! I don't understand why people get offended by this.
Before you talk about what you want ~ Be happy with what you have
I agree with ItsASecret. Discrete is fine, but not hysterical.
I'm not sure if it's people get offend by it , my things is I don't see motherhood as this beautiful thing like others do and I don't think a child nursing off it's mothers is something beautiful or special either, honestly it kinda turns my stomach but that's just me.
Even though it turns me off I believe women do have the right to do it in public just like I believe people should be allowed to smoke in public anywhere they please, different strokes different folkes

Yep, they should, or anywhere else they feel comfortable doing so. There is nothing more beautiful (the bonding that goes on between mother and child) or more important than providing an infant with the nourishment they need when they need it.
It's too bad our society has so many hang ups.....
