Yesterday, Hubby and i took some gifts to the local fire house to be distributed to needy children in the area for Christmas, and 12 bags of clothing including 4 winter coats to a homeless shelter in the city.
What was your last good deed?
Ours: My husband and I took some new coats over to the local boy's club. It's cold here kids need a warm coat for the winter. Great organization.

I recently started volunteering at my local YMCA Teen Center. I help come up with different activities for the kids and coordinate events, helps to keep them engaged and out of trouble. In the spring I will be planning a 6 week self-defense program for them that I am looking forward to.

Ahhh......this is an awesome thread. Love seeing all the wonderful things people do. This year in my office, I recommended that instead of playing Secret Santa, we use our money to do a food drive. Turned out so great. All the food is being delivered to a local nonproft "Hope House" today. It really warmed my heart to see all that food and know that it will ease the mind of someone wondering how they'll feed their children that day.

As we have every year for the past 8 years, we Adopted a Family for Christmas.
What we do is, starting each January is put away $10 minimum from our paychecks into a Christmas Fund. With my son & myself we manage 4 paychecks a month, so $40 a month is put away.
Come November we post an Ad on Craigs list, seeking a needy family for the holidays. we start with getting them Thanksgiving Dinner and then get them Christmas Gifts & Christmas Dinner.
We do have " rules ",though ... we adopt a family with 2 kids, 1 Boy & one Girl, ages 4-15, we find out thru email, what interests the kids have ? We try to keep the gifts educational or hobby types, arts, crafts, musical, science oriented.
The parents or parent we get gift cards or pay a months Electric or Phone/ Internet bill..
This year, we have a Boy 14 and a girl that's 12. The Boy wants to be an Astronaut or Astronomer so we got him a telescope and a DVD on the Wonders of Space and a Glow in the Dark " Solar System " ( stick on's ) for his bedroom ceiling .
The Girl wants to be a Veterinarian so we got her some books on Dogs, Cats, and Small Animals , raising and feeding and how to care for ones.
I also have a Friend who is a Vet and arranged for this girl to go to the Office 2 Saturdays a Month for 2 hours to Help out with the pets and get some first hand training. My Friend the Vet will pay $5 a Saturday and I will match the $5 for 1 year. After that it's up to Cricket my Vet friend on pay for Services.
It's not much and we aren't Rich, but if we can help a Child on their way to become what they want to be, it's worth the effort and money.
Gave a turkey to a family that is unemployed. Donated to the hearing dog program. Gave a bunch of groceries to someone who is underemployed, regularly give baked goodies to neighbors - I love to bake but don't dare eat it all.
