Mother nature has decided to bring us some rain here in southern California, where it almost never rains. I know that rain isn't as bad as snow but it is becoming a big problem for us. It has been raining, hard at times, for the last 2 days. They are expecting even harder rain this afternoon. It was supposed to stop today but now they are saying it might keep it up until tomorrow.

In my neighborhood we have had 3 inches already, they say we might get another 2 inches today. Lucky we are on high ground. Other parts of town have many roads closed because of standing water or mudslides. Even the trains are shut down because some tracks are under water and roadbed erosion.

I feel sorry for the shop owners, there isn't many people out shopping.

I'm in NV and we are flooding too. It's been raining and raining and raining since Saturday, POURING. State of emergency as of yesterday. I haven't left my house in 2 days and I'm going insane.

As all this moves East, some of you will definitely have a white Christmas.

OOOoo, i've seen some news footage on it, it looks way bad..

California is a basket case anyway, if it's not an earthquake going on then there are fires buring the state down, then the floods and mud slides, im surprised the state is still there..

Hey you are making fun of my adopted state. CA has been protecting NV from destruction for many years. We got another 1.5 inches today so far, bringing the total to around 8 inches since Saturday. Fortunately the hillside hasn't given way. I use wunderground and put in my zip code then search for a rapid fire station close by.

Haha....my girlfriend lives in LB and I totally love it there. She did say it had been raining extremely hard, and the drain systems just aren't cut out for that kind of rain. Flooding comes quick. Drivers don't know how to drive in it. Road rage is at the extreme. But hey...at least the crops will be nice for next year.

I have gone skiing and swam in the ocean on the same day, and no, it wasn't in a wet suit or a dry suit.

Usually for New Years Day, Pasadena has a Chamber of Commerce day that is the envy of much of the nation.

I've gone swimming in the ocean during a hot spell in every month of the year.

I can drive 10 minutes and am in 6,000 foot mountains, 20 minutes and they are 8,000 feet: that cannot be done east of the Rockies and there is no beach near the Rockies.

Cost of living is high, but wages are also high, with the right job and education choices.

The population of the county I live in is larger than all but 7 states. The county is also ranked high in physical area.

I've skied on July 4 weekend several years in a row at Mammoth. On those days you usually see some women in bikinis and guys in shorts.

Even with the downturn in real estate, my property is worth more than all that of my brothers(2) and sister combined.

The planes to the orient fly directly out of the local airport, no connection needed.

    Tornadoes are rare.

Never hurricanes due to the pressure gradients, they either go out in the ocean toward Hawaii or into Arizona.

Extreme heat lasting for more than a few days only comes in August and September on a normal basis, though a heat spell could come any time. In the desert there is obviously a lot more sustained heat than in the coastal areas.

Most of the time it is hot, it is not humid, thus the fire danger. But there is no dripping sweat sitting in the shade on a 90 degree day.

There are no alligators or dangerous snakes in the local lakes and ponds.

The last time there was a widespread snowfall in the lowlands was in the 1940s. There are never blizzards.

Rain is rare in the summer.

    Low incidence of lightning.

No coal vein fires lasting for decades.

The local basketball team wins national championships. One of the local college football teams did that, but they were stripped of their title.

The local movie producers produce locally and ship all around the USA and the world.

The local airport has the highest value shipping of any US airport.

The local seaport has the highest value shipping of any US seaport.
