    Default Amazon for grocery shopping

    Is this logical?

As the hubby and I are trying to save money, I was wondering if using Amazon grocery as a way to save money. We never spend much on food, our big expenses are basics like trash bags, toilet paper, paper towels, razor blades...you know...the non-food kind of things.

Amazon offers free super shipping on some things...so there is that. Also, you can join Amazon Prime and then it is free two day shipping.

So, if while we have some extra money, would it be logical to stock up on those things? Like you can get 40 rolls of a certain toilet paper for 32 dollars. Obviously that will last two people quite awhile but it is off our grocery list. Normally we spend about 5-10 dollars+ for 6-8 rolls.

I'm just wondering if that is logical....I haven't brought it up with my husband yet, but I need to buy razor blades, and they cost a fortune for just a few! (Would it do just a good of a job to buy an electric razor?) lol

Do you have a Sam's Club, Cosco, BJ's by you? That's where we get all our bulk stuff, toilet paper, dog food, paper towels, etc., hubby buys his razors there (they ARE so much cheaper). You do have to shop and compare, but it's worth it.

Although, I'm an Amazon Prime member too and LOVE it, it is definitely worth it. I don't grocery shop there, but I have some supplements and things that I buy monthly from there because they are so much cheaper.

    Auntie,
It depends on your Income, Shopping Stores ( on Your way home, His on Way home ).
You are depending on each other, so Buying Bulk is best. if neither of you are good at clipping coupons or looking for Big sales like joining Sams Club.

I actually Joined Sams/ Costco out here, cost $50 a year had it for about 20 years. Rarely got out there and usually saved more just looking thru the " Unwanted " Junk mails that gets in our Snail Mail .. ( Flyers) and just shopping once a week for " Deals".

Depends on your Mobility and Brand Preference. Just shop around .

We are insanely picky on brands. Like, no joke. We find something and we never change....ever. When they stopped making the toilet paper we used.....we didn't know what to do. lol We kept buying new ones until we found one we both liked....it was a traumatizing search, lol. My husband won't purchase certain brands because if the corporation behind it supports certain things in the government or religion...then we don't bring it in our house. THAT drives me crazy...but whatever.

I use Amazon to buy my allergy medicine and things like excedrin because you can buy super large amounts for cheap. I wasn't for sure about using it for other household products though.

We do have a Sam's club out here, but my husband does the grocery shopping for us and refuses to set foot in a place like that...or something. He always has an excuse for not getting a membership. That's why I thought Amazon might be a good idea, but I was looking for suggestions so I can approach him and actually be taken seriously. I figure if we get bulk of some things we buy every two weeks and end up spending a fortune on every time...then in the long run we will save money and be a little better set when neither of us has a job (after Feb 1).

I love Costco. But I can get TP at my local grocery 12 rolls for $9. If its stuff you usually buy and the price is right go for it.

PS: I'm like your husband, there are certain companies I will not purchase from because it would be funneling money into something I'm opposed to. In some cases its been 30 years, they haven't changed that I know of and I won't support them.

If you don't mind doing some planning use a shopping / deal blog. You can find one that deals with stores local to you at becentsable(dot)com. It helps you match up coupons with sale prices. If you do not want to coupon the blogs will still tell you what is on sale for a good price each week. It has been useful for me to lean what a good "Buy price" is on items we use often. You will need to learn to buy some things in bulk and utilize your freezer. I have saved a ton of $ since I began shopping this way.

I buy a lot of produce and in the summer and fall try to buy locally at the farmer's market. I don't buy a lot of prepackaged foods and make my own things like granola, soups and baked goods, so I buy quite a bit of bulk foods, those are generally more economical.
