Well Thomas, since you didn't list yours, here's mine.

Crosby, Stills, Nash (with or without Young). My opinion three of the best songwriters ever.

James Taylor. I can listen to him all day without getting bored.

Yes. Something about them that I love to listen to.

Well, I mostly listen to rock (modern and alternative rock). Other genres don't really appeal to me, just my preference. Let's see, favorite bands:

    1. Staind - Some might say that some of their lyrics are negative or depressing, but I see it differently. I think their music has real meaning behind it and is very emotionally charged. They write and rock about life's challenges, overcoming them, as well as the gifts and struggles that human emotion can bring. It's not just music for the sake of entertainment or to make a big name for the band, it's real and they rock from the heart.

    2. Nickelback - The type of band that you either love or hate. This band is the definition of rock, their music will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Some songs are crude and sexual (for entertainment sake), others are emotional and carry a lot of meaning, along with a few sappy love songs that I have to be in the mood to listen to.

    3. This is so tough, I can't pick a single band for third place, there are so many awesome rock bands out there. I guess I'll just name off some of the others I like: Evanescence, Linkin Park, Hinder, Dishwalla, Breaking Benjamin, Cavo, Cold, Daughtry, Trapt, 3 Doors Down, Three Days Grace, Rev Theory, Shinedown, Edgewater, Saving Abel, Puddle of Mudd, Incubus, 10 Years, Lo-Pro, Finger Eleven, and many more.

I have respect for all music and musicians, but I guess this type of music appeals to me the most because not only do I love to rock out to the sound of an electric guitar and bang my head to a kick a-- drum beat, but I also love music that carries emotional meaning and makes me feel things. I seriously can't stand the teeny-bopper pop music, rap or hip-hop. No offense to anyone that likes that stuff though.

ok, I thought I'd be polite and hang back before giving mine. As I'm probably a bit older than most of you, my tastes go back a bit.
Number one band of all time has to be The Beatles. Why because a) they were probably the best song writing duo of all time, b) They could play their instruments, and c) Their voices were extremely good. Not just singly, but as a harmony. Paul, John and George were brilliant as a harmony. I don't think they have been surpassed since. This band had all three disciplines perfectly rounded. Not many bands these days can write, play and sing that well ! A poll of all music lovers was taken a year or so ago and The Beatles still won. Second place is Queen. They were probably the nearest we've got to a complete band as The Beatles were. Third place could go to either of the following, Dire Straits, Genesis or Pink Floyd. Yes, I like Yes as well. The only American bands that I have liked (sorry) are; The Beach Boys in the 60's, The Eagles in the 70's , Can't think of anyone else. But I do like a wide range of music. I especially like Def Leppard as well if I fancy a head banging day !!

Yes kristalyn, I can't stand Rap either. Makes me want to commit suicide !!! Just thought of an American Band I like, The Killers !. Can't stand Nirvana. Oh, do like REM, they're very good as well. (I do love a wide range of Classical music as well, but that's a completely different story children !)

Limiting it to 3 is really tough. Depends on my mood.
Moody Blues are always welcome, there is never a time I don't want to listen to them (Going to see them again at Red Rocks later this spring!)
Shawn Phillips comes to mind but then so does Donovan, Journey, Styx, Alice Cooper, Zepplin, The Who, Tull - how can you possibly eliminate any of them?
Got to have some fun too, Beach Boys are good for that, so is Cindi Lauper, Men At Work, Joe Walsh, Blondie, ShaNaNa, Pretenders, The Cars

Sorry I can't possibly get down to three

Oh, oh, The Dead and Fleetwood Mac too!

When my kids were little they called rap, rat music. LOL
Unfortunately for me they got over their dislike of it. BLah, but they don't listen to mysoginistic carp - I hate that stuff.

I did like Def Leppard before (gotta give props to the one-armed drummer!), but they were the favorite band of my former FWB... he had one of their newer songs as a ringtone. Now whenever I hear them it just makes me think of that jerk who treated me like a living sex doll. But hopefully at some point I can get rid of that association.

    Aerosmith
    The Rolling Stones
    Eric Clapton
    The Eagles
    Theory of a Deadman
    The Beatles
    Finger Eleven (only some songs)
    Johnny Reid
    Kid Cudi
    Eminem

I like a little bit of everything except for anything under the very large group of Indie rock...I hate it and it encompasses a lot of new bands.

As I close in on 300 live shows (and I don't mean little gigs at the local watering hole) and having a vocal performance background, I am unable to list just three, so instead I'll list a variety (as my likes span the spectrum of music...)

    Andrea Bocelli
    Pavoratti
Boyz 2 Men (Uh, men...if you don't own this you should for obvious reasons)
Luther Vandross (Same goes for Luther...if you don't own at least one CD, you should)
    Eagles
Van Halen (either version With Sammy or David Lee....sorry Mr. Cherone is not included)
    Seals & Croft
    CCR
    38 special
    Ted Nugent
    The Temptations
    Four Tops
    Sir Elton John
    Rod Stewart
    Aerosmith
    Slow Hand....er...Eric Clapton
    REM
    U2
    Celine Dion
    Whitney Houston before Bobby Brown
    Aretha
Michael Jackson (the Elvis of my generation)
    Beatles
    Plain White Ts
    Train
    Styx
    Journey with Steve Perry
    GNR
    Buddy Holly
    John Mellencamp
    Crosby, Still & Nash
    The Three Tenors
    Celtic Women
    Moody Blues
    Rush
    Brian Setzer and his orchestra
    Brooks & Dunn
    Bob Seger

I could go on and on....

Sorry, I guess I didn't follow the directions.
